Hi
I need to set up SuSE 7.2 mail-server, that needs to:
Get the e-mails for 4 user accounts from ISP, store them locally, and deliver
the e-mails to local workstation (outlook in win-98) when user click on
"receive". Some filtering might be a good idea...
Accept sent e-mails from local win-box users, and resend them to ISP with
that users name.
I'm quite puzzled with the magnitude of different software. Could someone
succest what software I should use to set this up?
I don't need deep explanation, but I can't seem to select correct ones so
that they work together.
Do I need to set the user-accounts also in Linux, or can I "pass thru"
e-mails for non-Linux users?
How about copying all the traffic to a "monitoring" account in Linux?
Jaska.
I have identified the apsfilter related printing problem reported by Purple Shirt on the 8 Dec. 2001, in the suse-english mailing list.
Due to a nasty bug at the beginning of apsfilter, printing of non plain-ascii postscript is just impossible, as it gets interpreted as text (ironic, isn't it).
Apple MacOSX and probably others sends Postsript files which contains special characters like null characters.
It took me two full days to pinpoint and fix (I had no previous knowledge of lpd and apsfilter). However, the fix is quite straight-forward for someone who master apsfilter's internals, except, maybe, for a second bug that would still deprive french users and possibly others from printing.
I find it surprising that no one at SuSE seems to have taken any action so far.
The following patch fixes both bugs. Of course, SuSE is free to use it at once and publish the patched apsfilter for Yast Online Update ASAP ;)
to apply the patch, put it in /var/lib/apsfilter/
cd /var/lib/apsfilter/
patch -p0 < apsfilter-patch

I'm not sure where to start on this one..
My TV Card (Hauppage) comes with a remote control. KWinTV worked straight out
of the box except for the remote control..
Does anybody know how to get this working ?
Many Thanks
Pete
Greetings guys
I was trying to install suse 7.3 on a newly brought Pentium 4 with Intel
mb.I faced problem in that. After selecting install from the boot menu,
with blank screen the installation stopped. I tried manuall installation
with text mode. Here after got some messge, again the installation was
stopped.
(infact the installation did not start). The last messeges i got were
something like
Intel (R) 4 CPU with 1500MHz stepping 0a
Checking htl instruction ... ok
CPU:0 Clocks 0 Slice 0
I checked with memtest
here it shows L1 cache unknown.
L2 cache unknown.
Does it mean that my cache is not recognized by suse?
do I have to disabled in from bios?
Please guide me how should I proceed.

Hi,
I had no end of problems on 7.2
In the end I had to create a small
DOS partition then it worked.
I too had my / partition on /dev/hd'x'3

When you boot from the CD, you can boot the installed system. It asks
where
your / directory is, and in this case it would be /dev/hdb3. Once you do
that, you can run lilo, and all should be well.
Had to do this and got the same things you did. Once I booted the
installed
system it worked..

Hi.
I'm using suse 7.3, and VMware Workstation 3.0.
I try to setup the parallelport where my HP1100A is connected. Nothing else
is connected to the port:
parport_pc 19280 1
parport 22240 1 [vmppuser lp parport_pc]
The parallel port supply in the kernel is set as module, and should be ok
then.
When I boot Windows XP, I receive the following message:
"The "/dev/parport0" device is used by another program.
Device parallel will start disconnected"
I then try to switch the parport ON after the booting of WIN98 XP,
but I receive the same message.
Anybody that can tell me whats wrong ??.

SuSE Linux 7.3
Hi,
I have two hard disks:-
ata1 - master = IBM 30Gig ATA100 (/dev/hda)
ata2 - slave = IBM 30Gig ATA100 (/dev/hdb)
Any ideas how I can software mirror these and use ReiserFS as a
disk format? SuSE has to be bootable off either of the disks
*and* if one drive blows up, I need to be able to swap it out
with another one and rebuild the mirror pretty quickish. I dont
need to hot-swap - powering down is fine.
Can someone give us an idea where to start please!
Cheers,
- Chris.
Recently I have seen this after installing 7.3 on several machines. The
normal boot messages seen at start-up have lots of blank lines (carriage
returns?) between them. Anybody else seen this or have a fix?
Thanks
PCHintz
Has anyone heard of having to create a seperate partition for APM to
work on Dell laptops? I was told that this little slice had to be
created so that Linux could write info to it when it hybernated.
I've never heard this before and I'm wondering if it's crap.

I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
I'm trying to send an email from a mail client (outlook express) running
on NT 2000 via a linux box running sendmail. Everytime i try i get the
ff message from sendmail:
The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's
e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was '
<mailto:'daProwler(a)blueyonder.co.uk'> duff(a)duff.com'
<mailto:'daProwler(a)blueyonder.co.uk'> . Subject 'Anime - Thundersub',
Account: '192.168.50.1', Server: '192.168.50.1', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '451 4.1.8 <duff(a)duff.com>... Domain of sender address
duff(a)duff.com does not resolve', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 451, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
I can 'receive' email but cannot send. I seem to recall reading
something about setting the dns of the NT machine but i;m not sure what
or why. I've checked the sendmail site but that's cryptic as it usually
is. Anyway i believe the problem is on the NT side of things.
