On the new version - Should I be able to upgrade my *new* 7.2 onl ine?

Having just decided to reenter Suse and with 7.2 newly purchased, I was wondering whether I will be able to update online to give me the equivalent of 7.3? I am mostly familiar with apt-get in debian where everything is updateable. Is that how Suse works or are there proprietary apps that are not updateable online? Never really checked whether 7.3 was imminent.... Thanks, Jason.

Hi Thanks for your reply. Sorry I was not that clear. What I mean't to say was that the output of gears is affected by the mouse focusing on the xterm running gears, if I click away from the xterm running gears, clicking on the desktop or on the gears window the output drops to 800 or so fps, but clicking on the xterm window things speeds up to around 1500 sometimes 1700 fps. Gears just seems temperamental and I wondered if this was normal or whether the card is not setup properly? I am using the latest nvidia drivers with the SuSE 7.2 shipped verision of xfree 4, I think 4.0.3. I am running a Athlon 1.1ghz with an Epox board using agpx4. Check who uses HD

I am trying to setup a laptop to use as less as possible the HD to be able to slow down it when not used (power safe). I already have been hacking with flushd configuration and apmd.conf but HD only slows down a few times and just a few seconds... How can I check what process are using HD??? Cheers

Screensavers?

I've reciently installed suse 7.2 professional. When I set the screensaver I want to use in the control center, look and feel, screensaver, and click on the enable screensaver box at the top. It never works. The screensaver never turns on. When I click test, it workes ok, but it never works on it's own. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, John

Help needed: routing problem

Hi there, I am puzzled by the following problem: I have three computer A/B/C. A&B are linux machines, and C is solaris. A, B are connected through LAN, and B, C are connected through another LAN. There is no direct link between A and C. How do I setup the routing on A & B so that A can connect to C? (neither of them is a gateway of their respective LAN). Graphically, the network looks like this: A <===(eth0: 10.168.84.0)===> B <===(eth1: 192.168.84.0)===> C IPs: A (10.168.84.214) B (10.168.84.222, 192.168.84.212) C (192.168.84.11) I set up the routings on A: /% route add -net 192.168.84.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 10.168.84.222 / / % rcrouted start /and I was able to ping B's second ip. However when I ping C from A, it just hangs in there. Is there anything I should do on B? I have looked at some networking howto but still have little clue. Any hint is greatly appreciated! Oh come on, give us a break. This is NOT why SuSE has financial problems. And since when the cost of the materials dictate what the product is to cost. That $50,000 automobile has less than a $1000 in raw materials in it! You seem to forget that SuSE has to pay for the salaries of those developing the product and that has to be a huge task to develop and test each new version. It doesn't happen for free. SuSE is not only maybe the best distribution out there but it is a bargain, no matter how much you pay for it and you are complaining about $50 for the professional version sans the book! You want the books, pay the extra $30 and be thankful you can get the books; RH is actually cutting back on the documentation they put in their "Professional" box and that sells for $180 (list). I will be very happy to part with $80 when the product becomes available on the store shelves near me. Kmail 1.3.1

I recently upgraded to KDE 2.2.1 and kdenetwork 2.2.1. Now I have Kmail 1.3.1. My problem is that now, with Kmail 1.3.1, I cannot send any mail. Every time I try to send a message I get an error message that says: "Response: 550 not local host xxx.com(or net), not a gateway" What's going on here? Thanks,

No, that's not it Ben. I use the same smtp entry in Balsa, and it sends mail just fine. To this list, for example. Kmail just refuses to send it. Any more ideas? [SLE] Auto starting (non-KDE) applications in KDE

I've added GKrellM to ./.kde2/Autostart so it runs everytime I start KDE (kstart --window gkrellm --alldesktops --ontop --skiptaskbar /usr/X11R6/bin/gkrellm). However, I'd like to know if it's possible to tell KDE where to place the application when it starts. Presently, all non-KDE application start in the top left-hand corner. Any ideas?
