[SLE] python and perl

I have installed all the packages under version 6.3 I need to know if python is a program that has an a program environment or is it just a shell program. [SLE] auto reboot

This is pulling at strings right now, but is there anything that would cause our 2 servers (one suse6.1 and the other slackware) plus our pm3 to reboot all at the same time. They are all on the same UPS. this UPS does not have any power managment stuff on it. This is the first time this has happened. This happened at about 3 minutes after midnite. The machines are in locked building in a locked room. [SLE] V7.0 Professional - Yast2 hangs during installation

Help! I just bought Suse 7 Pro with great excitement but had a fairly frustrating evening trying to install it. Here are the details: i) I couldn't boot from the CDROM directly as my BIOS doesn't support that but booted from the first floppy and then ran Yast2 from the first CD. ii) All went well until I selected which packages to install. I selected a fairly conservative installation so that I could at least get a working system planning to add more packages later. During the installation of the packages ash.rpm gave an 'RPM error' message, I said continue and then just towards the end of the installation the big one k_dflt.rpm also gave the same 'error in RPM' message. The system then hung. I tried this a few times and using both of my CD drives. How annoying! [SLE] Installing a new kernel for SuSE64.

I wonder if someone could give me a little hand here. I am not sure I am doing things right with respect to getting a new kernel installed in my SuSE6.4 installation. In fact I am not even sure where to get the appropriate files. But, here is what I did.. I picked up a number of files at : http://download.sourceforge.net/pub/mirrors/suse_update/6.4/jerbek-2.2.16 Not sure which ones were the right ones so I got them all. I then ran rpm -i on the file called k_deflt. I may have spelled it wrong but it seemed to be a good one to try. This process created a new directory on /usr/src/, called linux-2.2.16.SuSE with a sym link to it called 'linux'. I noticed as well that it created a new in /lib/modules, called 2.2.16. Well, all this sorta told me that this was it. The kernel was installed and all I would have to do would be to run lilo and that would be it. Maybe even amend the lilo.conf file too. Not sure. But first I went over to the directory: /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/ to find bzImage. It was not there. I was going to copy it over to /boot but now I couldn't. No file! So, not knowing where this file was located, I went ahead and went back to /usr/src/linux and ran 'make menuconfig' and set out the options I wanted in the configuration and then ran: make dep clean bzImage && make modules modules_install. That all went well and with that I copied /usr/src/linuxSystem.map , and /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage to /boot. I then adjusted the /etc/lilo.conf file to include this new kernel and then ran lilo. I rebooted and it all came up. More or less. The sound doesn't work yet but that is a config problme of some sort. The network does so I am nearly there. Please tell me some one, if I have done this right, or does SuSE do things differently. Was I supposed to make up a new .config file, as I did when I typed in make menuconfig. Was I supposed to go and move the System.map and bzImage files over to /boot. Was I supposed to run 'lilo'. ?? And did I chose the right file k_deflt?? Please elaborate. My understanding is that the 2.4.x kernel series will have support for a >2GB file system, but SuSE 7.0 won't have the 2.4.x kernel. (I saw on the website that it will have an "unofficial" 2.2.17 kernel instead.) Now I did see a 64-bit file system mentioned on the website. Is that the same thing that's supposed to come out with the 2.4.x series, or is the 64-bit file system is something that SuSE's is adding on? Thanks! [SLE] Enlightenments ugly boxes

Hi SuSErs! When I start GNOME with Enlightenment it opens with several of these small, ugly boxes/icons that belong to Enlightenment. How can I configure so that they don't show at all?
