[SLE] cheap network cards

[SLE] Problem compiling the Suse Kernel

I have downloaded the source files of the suse 2.2.16 kernel. I have compiled it with the same options as the standard 2.2.16 kernel, but sound does not work. Also, I have no problem with standard 2.2.16 kernel. My sound card is currently a Soundblaster AWE 64. [SLE] How long can 6.4 go?

I bought 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4. At $20/$30 a pop it was no big deal and I didn't mind supporting the distro that had been so good to my slow learning curve, but with the new pricing, I'm gonna have to slow things down a bit and get more mileage out of the version I have. How long can a version, say 6.4, go before it's just dangerously out of date? Assuming I keep the kernel moderately fresh, what are the major packages I need to keep my eyes on? I use it for mostly specific things. As long as it does those things well, do I even need to concern myself with anything other than major security updates? I need some things in Professional like netalk, but $70 several times a year is pushing it for my small enterprise. Can I buy the personal edition, and just get the "special" packages I need from the 7.0 ftp server? Will SuSE update the 7.0 version as rapidly? Will there actually be a 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 and 7.4? Seems like buying 7.2 or 7.3 and riding that until 8.0 comes out could be a workable scheme. I suppose it's not out of the question to have somebody copy the Professional disks to CD-R for a drastically reduced price and just forgo the manuals? Or is that black letter, but not the spirit? Under this guise SuSE gets none of my money, that's not such a great solution either. [SLE] XFree86 4.0.1 & GLX with Matrox G400

Hello everyone, Has anybody got XFree86 4.0.1 to work with GLX with a Matrox G400 without changing to kernel 2.3.x (since we don't need DRI, but would like to keep being able to run ssystem and co using the dualhead feature). I am trying to set it up on a singlehead system and run into: GLUT: Fatal Error in ssystem: OpenGL GLX extension not supported by display: :0 when starting ssystem and (II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so (EE) LoadModule: Module glx does not have a glxModuleData data object. (II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so (EE) Failed to load module "glx" (invalid module, 0) in xdm.errors with SuSE6.4, kernel 2.2.14, glxMesa-20000506-1, XFFree86 4.0.1 Thanks for any pointers! Does SuSE 6.3 (with a new 2.2.17 kernel installed) need to be fed any special commands to activate UDMA 66 HD support? [SLE] Kmail prints postscript source code

Hi, I am running SuSE 6.4 and use mutt for mail under WindowMaker. My wife and kids are somewhat intimidated by mutt so I have set them up to run KDE and use Kmail. All is working fine except when it comes to printing out e-mails from Kmail. Instead of getting the output you would expect it appears that the source code of the postscript file (well I assume this is what it is) is printed. I am not at all familiar with KDE so I don't know if this is related to KDE as a whole or Kmail itself. Any ideas on fixing this? If not I'll have to find another simple, graphical mailer for them to use. [SLE] Can't boot from new HD

I did a complete re-install of SuSE 6.3 onto a new Seagate 30.6 GB HD. I installed a 10 MB /boot partition on hda1, then installed the balance of SuSE above the 1024 cylinder limit. I had heard that if /boot was benieth the 1024 cylinder limit everything would be OK. It boots from a disk and runs great, but I can't get it to boot off the HD. The new HD is a UDMA 66 type. [SLE] Linux Database Question

As I ask this question, bear in mind that my understanding of "database" is currently based on the Access, Approach, Paradox type of application, with nice wizards and code builders etc. Is there a similar program out for Linux yet?
