It probably doesn't matter, but I like ip-up.local, as then I know the first time I call fetchmail I'm really on line. I talked with the author of Fetchmail and discussed the issuse of -M. Once Fetchmail stops requesting mail due to PPP inactivity, it will continue to wait until it detects other PPP traffic. This works fine, but I had argued that if you run fetchmail while a copy is already running it should "bump" it into reading again. Then next version should do this. This would mean I wouldn't need to call ping from cron, rather call fetchmail. Same difference really. Hi Juergen, I have an unreliable nntp server that needs to be called repeatedly. I want to write a script to poll public server as follows: # for each nntp server in nntp server list # fetchnews $nnet_server # if return code is complete, exit, else next nntp server # end What should this look like. [SLE] OSS sound after 6.4 upgrade

Hi everyone. Just done the 6.3 to 6.4 upgrade Apart from a few small items it went well except that I can't get the sound to work. At bootup I get (from the boot.local script) /usr/local/lib/oss/modules/sndshield was compiled for 2.2.13 this is version 2.2.14 I recompiled and installed the OSS module in 2.2.14 but still no success. My boot.local file contains the line /usr/lib/oss/soundon Can anyone help? Thanks. [SLE] Bios i430vx-2A59Ht5BC-00 upgrade - solution found

Thanks to those on the list who tried to assist with this. I'll share my findings....My mobo is an Amptron PM7900, not a PC Chips, and the Amptron site has an upgrade which enables CDROM boot. :) See http://microelec.uab.es/~marin/ and follow the link to the PC Chips M520 bios lottery page. [SLE] wp 8 installation (suse 6.4)

I downloaded WP8 and untarred it. When I try to install, it says 'Linux 2.2.14 not certified. Continue? (y/n)'. The install gets corrupted no matter which option I choose. On another messageboard, someone suggested installing all the packages in the 'd' series and said that it worked for them. I don't have enough space, and some packages seem completely irrelevant to this problem. What can I do to solve this? [SLE] sis 6326 losing video ram with new Xserver

Hi, I just upgraded to suse 6.4 and I seem to be losing 4 meg of video ram. The error message is below. Any clue, (other than get a better video card?) This didn't seem to happen with my old suse 6.0. Using XFree86 SiS driver version 3.0.0 (--) SVGA: Found 8MB board, treating like 4MB. (--) SVGA: using programmable clocks. There's the world we live in and the world as we wish it were. When people I work with from other organizations use Word documents as the basis of our collaboration, they don't want to hear a diatribe from me about why they should be using something else instead. (Personally I prefer to produce documents in TeX and write them in Emacs.)
