I can't comment on NTL's internet service, but their overall customer care is crap. 3 times they have said an engineer will turn up and they've just not arrived. The first time my girlfriend had to sit in an empty house all day waiting for them - even at 4pm the customer service people said they would still come. She's even spent a day off work waiting for them and they never turned up. We've had to have them out way more than I've ever had BT. We had no incoming phone calls for almost a week a month or so ago. When they say they will come out they only give you a day, not even a morning/afternoon. We both work within 10 mins of home and NTL won't make a call in advance before an engineer is going to come out. We've been billed incorrectly several times, then been told to ignore it, then had letters saying we'd be cut off. They blamed the computer. Complaining seems to get you no where. We've had a few months line rental free, but I'd rather have a working service and then decent customer care. Their cable TV is even crap - very bandy and poor quality. Everyone I've spoke to who has NTL cable/phone has had similar problems. Sorry this is a non-Linux post, but I'd rather someone not make the same mistake as me. [SLE] Viewing directories with kfm

It seems that when I try to view a directory with kfm (under KDE), if the directory contains an index.html file, kfm will open that file rather than the directory itself. Is there any way to force it to open and display the directory? [SLE] DOSEMU and Novell troubles

L.S. I am trying to get Btrieve working with DOSEMU. Btrieve is dependend on SPX, so I need to run the novell client with the packet shim. But the only clients that are available to me are the VLM and Client32. But LSL segfaults, as does NIOS. Does anyone of you has this working? Another solution is the NETX client for Novell, but I cannot fiend this legacy client anywhere. Anyone of you now where that one is still available?? My ipchains -L looks like this: Chain input (policy ACCEPT): Chain forward (policy ACCEPT): target prot opt source destination ports MASQ all ______ anywhere anywhere n/a Chain output (policy ACCEPT): eth0=internet eth1=lan command for the chain ipchains -Aforward -ieth1 -jMASQ The lan machines are NT, I have done MASQing with 95/98 many times, is there something special you have to do with nt? Currently the only change I have made to the NT box is setting the default gateway to eth1's ipaddress. [This message is only relevant to SuSErs in the UK, although everyone else is allowed to sit and watch!] I am thinking of changing my phone from BT to NTL. The option of unlimited free Internet access is too tempting. My question is this: Has anyone managed to connect to NTL using wvdial or PPP and, if so, what settings were used? [SLE] Compressed files as disks...

Hey all, I use SuSE 6.1 and was looking through the HOWTOs and could not seem to find one about how to make a "Virtual Volume" as a compressed file. My reasoning? I want to copy my SuSE cds to my HD, compress them, and use them as Virtual disks. How would I go about it, or have I missed the howto?
