[SLE] setting up "caching only name server"

I am trying to setup a 'caching only name server' on my Linux box. I followed the instructions in the HOWTO (http://howto.tucows.com/LDP/HOWTO/DNS-HOWTO-3.html) It doesn't work. Jan 9 19:33:15 firewall named[673]: sysquery: sendto([192.5.5.241].53): Operation not permitted It is the last line that I believe will lead to some resolution to the problem. The reason for the 10.226.x.x is that I have aDSL and my outside connection is that 10.226.x.x. Any ideas what is wrong? [SLE] Dumb question.. but

[SLE] bad mail config problem

Hi All the 3rd message from me in one day! Im having a nasty problem with my mail settings Somehow... the Machine name is getting appended to my mail eg dizzy73@Serina Ive had this probelm for quite a while and would like to put it to bed any ideas where my mail would get this from? How could I grep my whole system for that string?? So I can find where its coming from I send mail through my isp and Im not sure about the sendmail expensive I have dizzy73(a)connix.com in every place that needs a mail address. [SLE] 6.3 problem with dev3dfx package

I have tried to install the 6.3 version from scratch and each time I get the following error message when it comes time to configure the dev3dfx package: mnt/tmp/YaST.tdir/stp24_2783_S /sbin/depmod no such file or directory POSTIN dev3dfx returns 127 I am installing on a Gateway g6-400 Pentium II system with 128mg memory and a 3dfx Voodoo Banshee video with 16mb of memory. After all is said and done and sax goes to configure the xserver, I get flicker all over the screen in various places. I printed off two different articles from the SuSE support db, "Using 3D hardware acceleration of Voodoo graphics cards" and "Missing Xserver xbanshee". I followed the instructions in both but still no joy on the flicker. I ended up reloading 6.1 from scratch with XFree86 3.3.31 and did not have the problem. Is there a problem with the xsvga package on 6.3? [SLE] Networking Telocity DSL -- [Ticket [20000106100000127]

Ugh. Now I finally tried static IP address from Windows 98 and ... IT WORKS (static) from windows!!?? All along I thought the problem was dhcp but it appears that something else is going on. So, to recap, I can use my static IP numbers to connect through a gateway on Telocity DSL using windows, but in Linux (SuSE 6.3 anyway) I get no connection. I did some experimentation using static ip numbers in Linux. I can ping my network and broadcast addresses (x.x.x.216 and x.x.x.219 respectively, using ping -b x.x.x.y) successfully. Pinging anything else just hangs (of course, I can also ping the pc ip address x.x.x.217, but not the gateway x.x.x.218). My netmask is 255.255.255.252. Any ideas? One possibility: I noticed in windows that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled (and greyed out). Could it be that I need NetBIOS? jim bruer <jim(a)bruer.org> wrote: > Hmmm...your still struggling. Does anybody know whether SuSE 6.3 supports the Multipass 5500 Printer from Canon. I am not able to get it to run under Linux. It is a multifunctional printer i.e. fax+scanner+copier. Does that mean it can run only under Windows. Please advice. [SLE] Getting NFS to work

I have both the NFS server and client working, but not correctly. Here is the exports file from the server: ----------------exports---------------- # See exports(5) for a description. # This file contains a list of all directories exported to other computers. # It is used by rpc.nfsd and rpc.mountd. /home (rw) /tmp (rw) And I am mounting the /home in the fstab of the other box: ----------------fstab----------------/dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/hda6 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/hda2 / ext2 defaults 1 1 /dev/hdc /cdrom iso9660 ro,noauto,user 0 0 /dev/fd0 /floppy auto noauto,user 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 firewall:/home /home nfs timeo=14,intr The problem I have is this: When I access .xinitrc (and I assume any of the .<filename> files), the thing locks up on me. On the server, I can access the file fine. When I say access I mean 'cat .xinitrc', I can 'cat' some script files I created just fine. Is my NFS setup wrong? How do I fix this?
