[SLE] Dumb question.. but

I guess it is apache that you are using, if so I would advise looking at apache man pages/docs for a flag which allows apache to follow symlinks. Read this doc: http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/adrian_6.3_apache.html It'll explain how to enable following of symbolic links.
