CHANGES for v1.7 of SuSEfirewall: v1.7 09.01.00 (beta version) * Added -n to the lsof call to save time (thanks for reporting) * When SuSEfirewall could not start (e.g. interfaces not active) it would leave the system in an unusable way to communicate to any network unless successfully started. Affects v1.5 and v1.6 only. * Successful (un-)loading of SuSEfirewall is now logged to syslog. * New option FW_STOP_KEEP_ROUTING_STATE available in /etc/rc.firewall to keep routing enabled when stopping the firewall. [SLE] Dhclient and dynamic Hostname

Hello, I have installed Dhclient with Suse 6.3. I succeeds to retrieve a dynamic IP-address, domain-name and domain-name-servers. But it doesn't retrieve any of host-name nis-domain nis-servers Is Dhclient supposed to yield this info? Does Dhclient expect the host-name directly from the Dhcpd? Can't it retrieve the host-name from Dns or Nis once it knows it's IP-address? [SLE] from hpux to suse - user account

Hi all, I have a linux directory exported and mounted on hpux box. In hpux box I copied the entire directory tree to <linux-exported> directory by using the command below: <hpux directory> # find . | cpio -pcvxdm /linuxnfs I have error message saying that "chown /directoryA/sub_dir error ". Obviously, "cpio" couldn't preserve the owner and its permission in /linuxnfs, because those group account and their users haven't existed in linux box. If I create the similar group and users account, am I able to preserve the originality of the data - is very important to the machine that uses it. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance. (another newbie question) I would like to set a spindown timeout for my second HD; I can do that with hdparm, but I'd like it to be set automagically whenever I start the machine every morning; can I just add the command as the last line in /sbin/init.d/boot.local? For the Stand-Alone-PC Home Linux User, "Chrony" seems complicated and difficult to set up. I have looked at <RPMfind.net> but there is not a SuSE_specific RPM for Chrony. [SLE] Cannot open /proc/08604 for GC

Hello Linux folks! Is some one of you running IMAP MTA webmail 0.61? When I tried to execute ./webmail.sh >> stdout.log 2>&1 & Webmail didn't start and I got a message in stdout.log: Cannot open /proc/08604 for GC Does it mean that my JDK 1.1.7B has a bug and it is not going to work with webmail 0.61? [SLE] mirroring /home partitions

I have set things up where /home is on it's own 1.8G partition on one 10G HD and would like to mirror it to another drive that has about 1.8G left on it, the size of the drives ARE different. Can anyone point me to some documentation on how to do this? [SLE] Install hangs

Hi all, I'm trying to install SuSE linux 6.3 for cd, but I haven't been successfull so far. Everytime, after being almost finished, the harddisk becomes *very* active, but nothing else happens. This is when all packages have been installed. The only thing that's still on the screen is something like "diskspace..". I've tried everything using Dutch, English and German settings in guided installation. They all fail. Only the automatic install succeeds, but that's not what I want. A few specs: Compaq Intel Pentium-II, 300 Mhz celeron. Maxtor 6.3 GB HDD 24x cd-rom player. Nothing fancy, I guess. Can anyone help me out?
