Thanks. I should think so. For almost any job except raw number-crunching the amount of RAM is much more important than the processor type and its MHz value. Since photo editing involves working with large files, I would suggest you get more RAM or a faster (and larger) harddisk before you even consider a faster CPU. [SLE] Quake III and Riva TNT2 chipsets?

Ok people .. I am going to take the plunge and start playing games again. Anyone using the TNT2 chip set and playing Quake III? If so .. does it run well ... is it hard to get up and running .. any tweaking needed? I just installed 6.3 .. seems nice and it's a fresh install, the only thing I kept was /home. [SLE] Autodetection of partitions

Yesterday, I installed Slackware 4.0 on the computer of a friend of mine. It' has a very nice feature : during installation it autodetects all partitions in the computer and asks if he can write them into /etc/fstab, so they are mounted at startup. I have both the NFS server and client working, but not correctly. Here is the exports file from the server: ----------------exports---------------- # See exports(5) for a description. # This file contains a list of all directories exported to other computers. # It is used by rpc.nfsd and rpc.mountd. /home (rw) /tmp (rw) ----------------exports---------------- And I am mounting the /home in the fstab of the other box: ----------------fstab---------------- /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/hda6 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/hda2 / ext2 defaults 1 1 /dev/hdc /cdrom iso9660 ro,noauto,user 0 0 /dev/fd0 /floppy auto noauto,user 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 nfsserver:/home /home nfs timeo=14,intr ----------------fstab---------------- The problem I have is this: When I access .xinitrc (and I assume any of the .<filename> files), the thing locks up on me. On the server, I can access the file fine. When I say access I mean 'cat .xinitrc', I can 'cat' some script files I created just fine. Is my NFS setup wrong? How do I fix this? [SLE] Voodoo Banshee Problems in XFree86 3.3.5

I asked a question over the weekend about a problem I was having with xsgva and my Voodoo Banshee card and asked if there was a problem with the xsvga package. Well, according to http://glide.xxedgexx.com/3DfxRPMS_vb_glibc.html , there are some bugs for the Banshee in 3.3.5 but it is supposed to be fixed in 3.3.6 which the XFree86 web site says is now available. It is also supposed to be fixed in the version on the 3dfxgamers website http://www.3dfxgamers.com/ . Dale A. [SLE] FYI: xfce-3.2.3 SuSE rpm

The latest xfce (not there yet, our mirror-process has to grab it first, will happen tonight European time): ftp:///ftp.suse.com/pub/contrib/i386/madefor63/xfce-3.2.3-0.i386.rpm Well, the original rpm from www.xfce.org should be almost the same and should also work, the difference to this one is minimal... except that I _know_ this one is compiled right, and I also use a small dif. PS: Unfortunately, SuSE Linux 6.3 contains a very old version of xfce, although a much more current one was available when the distribution was made. Someone messed up. That's one of the reasons I put this update on the ftp-server. Hi Is this line in /etc/inetd.conf pop3 stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/sbin/popper -s only needed if I want to make it possible to get mail from my server via POP3? I have it enabled but restricted it with 'popper: LOCAL' in /etc/hosts.allow. In+my /var/log/warn i sometimes get lines like this popper[xyz]: refused connect from server.tld Does that mean that someone on server.tld har been trying to connect to my box +via POP3?
