[SuSE Linux] Permedia 2 Video

Can anyone vouch for the ease-of-use factor with these cards? I've seen them for $60 US and under, and was wondering if they were worth the investment. Those of you paying close attention may have noticed that I started out with a Voodoo Banshee by Creative Labs and I have since moved back to an SiS6326 card I had laying around. The SiS is still fairly cranky, compared to my ol' reliable S3 ViRGE DX card, and I wonder if the Permedia is any more or less cranky. Just a shot in the dark. One related question: is there a way to find out at which terminal one is logging in, so that the xterm sizes, fonts etcetera can be set properly? [SuSE Linux] Problem compiling 2.2.7 under Suse 6.0

Hiya. Apologies if this mail is going to the wrong place, but I don't know where else to try!!! I cannot get the 2.2.7 kernel to compile correctly under SuSE 6.0. The code compiles and links fine under RedHat 5, so what am I doing wrong? (I am using different source disto's though - both from ftp.kernel.org - I am using the tarball for RedHat, and the BZIP file for SuSE, but both say the archive is valid.) As far as I can see, both distributions have the same checksum.c file. When I do a make zImage (or plain make), I get the error as shown in the attachment. Basically, it is picking up a redefinition in the file arch/i386/lib/checksum.c Any ideas??? Here's the versions of the files I am using :- Kernel 2.0.36 (both custom-built and default EIDE kernels) gcc 2.7.2.3 GNU make 3.76.1 I have a P166MMX, 48MB RAM, 96MB swap, circa 400MB free space HELP! ...and so am I. pppd dies upexpectedly when I try to dial out using kppp. My internet connection is called ppp0. How do I amke it run? Under RedHat, its ifup ppp0? Whats the SuSE equivalent? Help please. [SuSE Linux] Big HD with old BIOS

Hi, A collegue of mine wants to run a Linux server on an old 386 but its BIOS does not recognize HDs larger than 240 MB (he wants to use an 800 MB HD). I thought I read somewhere that Linux circumvents certain BIOS functions. Will it be possible use a HD bigger than 240 MB on this PC under Linux? [SuSE Linux] Creative Labs Ensoniq PCI Sound

Good news, all! You heard a few days ago about beta sound dri- vers being available for the SB Live! sound cards, but maybe you don't have the cash for even the Value cards. Well, the Ensoniq PCI is a great sound solution for those of us who with severe ISA deficiency. Well, mostly, anyway. I went ahead and compiled support for my ESS1371 chipset into the kernel (not a module), as well as MPU401. What I can't get sorted out is why I can play wav, mp3, and cda audio, but not mid files. This is disappointing, but not a killer. I don't use the midi standard often, but once in a while it does come up (plus, I have a killer collection of mid's that I get an urge to play with sometimes...) Any ideas? The features you have mentioned here are all mail/contact management features. KOrganizer exists, though I have not used it. So does xplan, which has been fine for me. Office97 includes many programs and it is difficult te guess what you are looking for, but take a look at Applixware and KOffice. [SuSE Linux] Window Managers?

I was just wondering what people thought of the different WM's out there. Personally, I find the WindowMaker environment "niftiest". I like the way it uses themes, and its ease of use to set up, and manipulate.... Very nice. I also enjoy the fact that its one of the least memory intestive that I've found (hell, in comparison, it makes fvwm2 look like trying to run windows 98 on a 386!) (and by no way was that a microslop endorsment). I just wanted to know what the other window managers offered, and what the pro's / con's of switching may be.....
