[SLE] What the heck is this?

Hello, emails are appearing in my SuSE folder, which have my Subject lines, sent from postmaster(a)huzd002a.te6.siemens.be Everytime I post, I receive my post via the thread as well as this thing with the same exact Subject line. What is it? The contents are always the same. [SLE] Masquerading Causing Hair Loss

Thanks to all those that helped. I'm up and running now. My problem was the IP being specified in the MSQ setup. I was using 192.168.0.0/24 and changing to 192.168.1.0/24 did the trick. Changing the MSQ_DEV from eth0 to ppp0 didn't seem to make any difference. I also had to put the following in my boot.local ipchains -P forward DENY ipchains -A forward -j MASQ -s 192.168.1.0/24 -d 0.0.0.0/0 It was a little frustrating that it took so long to get this working when the steps were so simple. A little 5 Minute Masquerding HowTo on the SuSE site would be useful since I think this is something the majority of people who use Linux want to do. I'm glad that SuSE put the MSQ symbols in the configuration file, it does make it easier once you understand what needs to be done. Again thanks to the great mailing list. Now on to try my Windows98 and Win2K clients, then firewalling! [SLE] GATEWAY ADDRESS

I've looked at /etc/route.conf and it has default set to 192.168.1.1 so I assume this is pointing to my IP MASQ machine to resolve a network address. If I try and ftp or ping from this machine to the outside world through my gateway I get "network unreachable". I can get to the network from my gateway without a problem (eg this email). I'm using the 2.0.36 kernel and the following commands to setup the IP MASQ. I've set IP_FORWARDING to yes in rc.config. Anything else I'm obviously missing? I used ipfwadm -F -p deny ipfwadm -F -a m -S 192.168.1.0/24 -D 0.0.0.0/0 Should I forget working with 2.0.36 and upgrade to SuSE 6.2? [SLE] GATEWAY Address

Where does this actually get set? In yast for eth0 I put in my gateway address of 192.168.1.1 (which is my IPMASQ server) but when I look in rc.config at the IFCONFIG_0 parameter it points to 192.168.1.255. Clock skewed

Hi all When I try to recompile the kernel I get a message saying the clock is skewed and the build may not work. What does this mean and how can I fix it ? I am running SuSe 6.1 with kernel 2.2.5. Thanks Mike

[SuSE Linux] Call-back with SuSE 6.1

Hi, everybody I'm new to Linux. Installed SuSE a couple of weeks ago and now trying to get some functionality. I have trouble setting up call-back (SuSe 6.1<---> ISP's NT Server 4.0) with optional number (fixed as well). Tried to use wvdial, but with no success (it dials OK, but then seems like doesn't know what to do next). Can it do the trick? I feel that maybe some scripting could help me. Could anybody provide me with necessary directions (or direct to the information) for making a flexible script and what software I need installed or some other approach? (I've read PPP-HOWTO but don't know if the information it contains applicable to current SuSE version; it doesn't say anything about wvdial). One more thing. Is it necessary to set the proper values in "resolv.conf" and host.conf? Some other files? I actually tried to find the answer and found a sample ppp.conf with brief instructions on settings (from Free-BSD as I remember), but can I use it with SuSE 6.1 and how? [SuSE Linux] Hard lockups

I'm using SuSE Linux 6.1 on a Pentium 90 with 32 MB EDO Ram, 2MB S3 Trio 64 V2 (no-name brand), 3Com 3c509B TPO NIC, SB Vibra16 PnP (mostly not used, but have the OSS drivers which I only run on- demand), primary master IDE is a 3.1 GB WD Caviar with Linux, primary slave is a 24X CD-Rom, secondary master is a 2 GB Fujitsu with FreeBSD (dormant and unmounted for the time I'm becoming comfortable with Linux). Kernel is 2.2.5 I think (standard SuSE 6.1 kernel). My problem: when running X (and only when running X apparently) the computer just hard-locks completely. Can't even ping to it. At first I thought it was just X locking up and trapping all signals from the mouse and keyboard, but since I can't ping to it, it means the whole OS is locked up. I'm running KDE 1.1 which is also standard with SuSE 6.1, and the X server is the S3-specific server. Haven't tried using the SVGA server to see if there's a difference though. If anyone has seen (and hopefully solved) this or similar problems, or if you know how I can track down what's happening, I'd greatly appreciate it.
