[SuSE Linux] statd and lockd

I'm in need of a statd and lockd that works with suse. I am planning on getting the ones that are distributed with redhat. Has anybody done this? Is there a reason why statd and lockd are not included with suse? Is redhat the best way to go? [SuSE Linux] 3Com Etherlink III ISA

Hey, I have a 3Com Etherlink III which I cannot get to work in SuSE. Windows shows an IRQ at 10 and an Input/Output Range of 0300 - 030F. So, I have to set the 3C509 module IRQ to 10, but what about the IO address? 300? Dear SuSers, I would like to ask informations about a fortran compiler more tolerant than (g77, f2c,). Because I have programs which was runing very well on Sun and HP workstations when I was in the university. But now I am unemployed and I would like to continue my work at home using my newly ##Pentium-Suse## machine which I am so happy with. Because the programs are very large it will be missy to debog and adapt for the g77 or f2c with gcc. Compiling with g77,... give pages and pages of various errors !! and there is not a lot of options that could even shutt the warnings. Questions: 1) Is there another "Free" alternative than g77 or f2c, I can test ? 2) Otherwise, does some know, Where can I find informations about comercial Linux Fortran compiler ? note that I am not looking primarilly for performance=speed Could you help I please ? Thank you very much, I am still a consumer of help. I will returned this back as soon as I can ! I noticed there where some updates for 5.3, and being lazy, I fired up YaST and selected update and ftp. It all ready had the suse site, so I told it to go for it. Noticed it kept bombing out not being able to find a "descr" file. Do I need to point YaST Somewhere else versus just taking the defaults? Got on the ftp server ok, just couldn't find the file so immediately closed the connection. Yes, I know I can just download the rpm files which I have in the past. BTW, this is just the power supply fan, I didn't open up the case to see about the cpu fan. If you're real curious, I'll do that at home where I scrapped the cover loooongg ago. No heat buildup there (some cat hair problems, however). I would say that if the power supply fan pulls air in, then you want your new fan to blow out. This would be for the case fan. As for the cpu, isn't there a connector already on it? I would think that it's gonna blow the way it wants to ... [SuSE Linux] IDE ribbon cables

Anyone know a good place to pick up IDE ribbon cables? I've come into a bit of a problem trying to put together an interesting little machine. The motherboard has a header for a 50-pin IDE ribbon cable that connects to a 2.5" (laptop-size) IDE drive. I've searched every large and small computer store in the area without luck, so now it's time to hit the 'net. You can imagine the number of spurious hits I get trying to do a decent Websearch for the item. So, anyone know where to pick up a laptop-size IDE cable? Something around 4-6" will work. I can compile imwheel [<A HREF="http://search.freshmeat.net"><A HREF="http://search.freshmeat.net</A">http://search.freshmeat.net</A</A>>] on my system with glibc1 on it. But I can't get it to compile on my systme that I changed to glibc2. I would like to know what steps I should take to determine why this isn't working and how to fix it. Any suggestions? [SuSE Linux] [off topic] On the virtues of a well kept garden

I always devote half of my garden to tomatoes, and this year I planted Celebrity (which I plant every year) and Burpee tomatoes. Celebrities are medium sized and quite similar to the tomatoes that you would find at the store. I started getting tomatoes off these plants in early August. My Burpee plant showed no signs of producing fruit, yet grew to an astonishing 6 feet tall. I thought perhaps I had a sterile plant and all it's energy was being put into going to vine. I just started getting ripe fruits from this plant this week. They are the size of both of your fists held together, nearly seedless, perfect red meat, and exceptionally flavorful. This is the best sandwhich tomato I have ever grown, and from now on I will probably grow them exclusively, but I will plant them early in the future.
