1. Linux 5.2 is base-installed, under default
package configuration plus components from 'n' (network) package set.
2. Boot looks fine. named is started (although I am not sure I set up
anything for that expllicitly, probably under 'portmap' daemon) 3.
eth0 is set up and works fine. 4. ppp0 is set up, both local and
remote IP are 0.0.0.0 5. local ping works fine (ovr the LAN segment
subnet).
Now is the big one.
6. ping to an outside IP returns "Network is unreachable"
Log of /etc/suseppp/scripts/ppp-up <provider> returns no errors and
shoes 2 IPs assigned (local/remote). That is all I know. my best
e-mail address: vicco(a)domlife.com (disregard the one in the header,
if different) Looking forward very much for your reply.

Since no answers to my problem loading applix seemed to be forthcoming from
this group, I started searching the RedHat archive. I finally found a
message stating that the problen was caused by mounting the CD with the
"user" parameter. I edited this out of "fstab", re-mounted the CDrom, and
the installation of applix worked. WHY? What changes will this cause? Why
does Yast put it in "fstab"?
Please, o guru's, instruct this Clueless Newbie!

I'm getting a very regular General Protection error, on the following
system ( set up to be a mail and www server runing X ).
I've reformated and reinstalled twice, with more limited package selection
each time. No difference was noted.
MotherBoard : ABIT LX6
CPU : Pentium II 233Mhz
Memory : 64 Meg SDRAM
Hard Drive : ATAPI IDE Mitsumi 4gig
CD-ROM : Mitsumi 24x EIDE ( set as slave )
Video Card : Matrox Millenium (MGA)
Network Card : SMC8432T EtherPower PCI
Mouse : PS/2
Keyboard : Standard 101 key
OS : SUSE LINUX 5.1 December 1997 installed from CD-ROM
There are no other devices.
I do have the i/o devices ( Keyboard, Monitor, Mouse ) connected to a
Belkin omniview 4 port electronic switch.
After every few hours, the system gets semi locked. It responds to
<alt><Function key> commands, but not to <cntrl><alt><del>.
<enter> at any screen, except login prompt gives the following.

Hello everybody!
I'm running suse5.1 for some time now and just realised
that my
ksh
does not let me have the selected keytable.
I have the correct one in vi and bash
right now <shift><3> = '§'
but in the shell itself I get the default
from the kernel or so, which is <shift><3> = ''' .
dumpkeys says I have the right keytable
I can use loadkeys and xmodmap with no errors,
but in shell mode it remains the same.
Even dragging a '§' and dropping in an xterm leads
to
'''
???
I have a file-name beginning with '§' as fist character
and I think if I want to delete it
I'll have to do something like rm -i *
and type a few 'n''s and once 'y'.
It's not only the <shift><3> key, so I want to change it.
(no I don't want to switch to bash forever)
please help
