[opensuse] boot32.efi for 64 bits processor and Leap

Hello, We see more and more often very small but powerfull computers, atom multicore 64 bits, but with UEFI 32 bits firmware. I have one now ("It Works TW891" paid 129€ - 32Gb ssd + 2Gb ram, runs almost perfectly windows 10 32bits or Debian 64bits). these computers can be installed with 64 bits distros, but they need absolutely a 32 bits loader. Right now I on ly know of the hybrid debian 32/64bits dvd to be able to install. Notice that *only the loader* have to be 32bits, the generic name being boot32.efi copying a generic loader to the Leap EFI folder allows booting, and probably installing (I couldn't make all the tests), but the generic one gives only a grub prompt, not handy. [opensuse] How to make sure that each vNIC in guest is always associated with a correct VLAN?

Hi, I have six virtual bridges in xen host machine and following virtual machine configuration file section defining the vifs: vif = [ 'bridge=br10', 'bridge=br20', 'bridge=br30', 'bridge=br40', 'bridge=br50', 'bridge=br60' ] This means that in the guest(openSUSE Leap 42.1) I have six vNICs(eth0 - eth5). Can I be sure that eth0 is always connected to br10, eth1 to br20, etc? Or should I specify a MAC address for each vNIC created like this: vif = [ 'bridge=br10, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F1', 'bridge=br20, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F2', 'bridge=br30, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F3', 'bridge=br40, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F4', 'bridge=br50, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F5', 'bridge=br60, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F6' ] .. and then configure udev rules which make sure that interface associated with MAC 00:14:5E:11:C6:F1 and br10 is always named eth0, interface associated with MAC 00:14:5E:11:C6:F2 and br20 is always named eth1, etc? Bad blocks on a ReiserFS volume. How to retrieve files?

I have a large hard-disk (120 GB) on which some blocks went bad. Now, it cannot be mounted. Attached is what debugreiserfs says. What can I do; I'm newbie to reiserfs architecture. I thought that ReiserFS keeps copies of the superblock or something, like ext2/3 does. reiserfsck says "error occured looks like hardware problem. bread cannot read block 13271040". That's the actual number it displays. PS I have asked the same question on the reiserfs-list, but it's extremely low traffic. Maybe someone here knows more. [opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). Sorry SuSE: 9.1 is Waste of time and money!

I am sorry to conclude that my upgrade from SuSE 9.0 Pro to 9.1 Pro has been waste of time and money for me, so far. The same I have to say about the free SuSE "Installation support". The reason is that my SuSE 9.1 installation only detects 1 of my 3 SCSCI devices (as I wrote in another subject on this forum: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2004-May/3254.html) Yamaha 4416S CDRW recorder detected HP DVD Writer 100i NOT detected Epson 1640SU scanner NOT detected It's rather stupid. I have installed 9.1 using the DVD disk just in the HP DVD drive, but after the installation of 9.1, the KDE/Konqueror /media/recorder cannot access it and YaST2 cannot install additional software from it. Only one "Cdrecorder" is found in My computer and that is the Yamaha 4416 drive, which the KDE/Konqueror file manager assign as /media/recorder11. I am sure 9.1 is the reason, as I hadn't this problems with 9.0. I have tried both an update and two several new installation of 9.1. Neither SJDS nor Windows on the same multiboot PC have problems to detect these devices. In my opinion SuSE should therefore debug 9.1 better and longer, and not leave the problems to the customers. I see SuSE notes on their web saying that they know SCSI scanners are not detected in 9.1. But regarding my HP DVD writer problem, the SuSE support (as usual) don't take the responsibility and argue that this problem (a combination of IDE disk and SCSI devices) isn't included in their free installation support! This sounds remarkable, and I have never had a modern PC of so simple model or configuration that it has fitted the limited rules for the free installation support. Terje J. Hanssen

[SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. Unplanned reboot fried sound card?

Today I had the pleasure of my computer shutting down without warning. It came back up mostly fine, except that my sound card no longer seems to work. It is recognized in Yast, and thinks it is the primary card, yet the (amp, speakers) do not seem to get a signal from it. `aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/test.wav` or a video from a browser now send sound to a small builtin speaker on the computer. Is it possible to determine if the card itself is destroyed? Clearly yast, etc. still recognize it. thunderbird not forwarding messages with yahoo mail

Howdy, I have some email that comes in through a yahoo email account that I want to set up automatic forwarding to a different email account. Can't do that on yahoo anymore, as they removed that feature for free accounts. So I wanted to do that in thunderbird by setting up a filter that automatically forwards certain emails coming into that account. Problem is, when it tries to forward the emails, it tries to login to yahoo separately and something goes wrong... there is no problem with me manually forwarding all of those emails, but I can't get it to work on the automatic forward. It says that it fails to login, so I have to click that to acknowledge the failure, then it asks me for a new password, even though the old password works for regular email us. Hi, One of my 4TB disks in my miniserver is failing. Unrecoverable errors, says smartctl, and growing. I have disconnected it till I get a replacement. And here are my doubts. I see in YaST Online Update (Leap 15.3) currently three items in the Optional category with similar descriptions, e.g. openSUSE-SLE-15.3-2022-781 - Optional update for SUSE Package Hub This optional update provides the following changes: - Provide binaries for non x86_64 architectures directly to SUSE Package Hub. - There are no visible changes for the final user. - Affected source packages: MozillaThunderbird, enigmail References: MSC-303 (jira) : https://jira.suse.com/browse/MSC-303 --------- I don't really understand what the implication is here. I'm on x86_64, so is it suggesting that other non-x86_64 packages have been added that weren't there before, and there's some minor version numbering difference or something that forces my existing installed packages to see some kind of upgrade, even though it isn't a real upgrade? Hello, For reasons that do not matter right now I moved from FF to GCS as my default browser. A day ago I ran into printer problems that I usually addres by use of CUPS. Much to my dismay I could not do any aignificant work because of lack of authorization. Ordinarily a popup appears to let you enter credentials but it did not. After a day of hairpulling and spelunking the net i chanced on a message of some good soul who wrote that he had the same problem with chromium and that switching to a different browser solved it. Much to my surprise he was right. I went back to FF and there it was: the popup for my credentials. There ought to be a law that this should not happen. :) FF rocks! I haven't found the answer yet... If my wifi goes down, then powers back on, my system (OS 15.0, wicked) doesn't detect it and will sit there until I manually restart the service. Isn't something supposed to be running that makes that process automatic? Yeah, I know it's one of those really stupid simple things but I just cannot remember and searching the web hasn't been much help. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks ...

From 15.4 roadmap: "Wed, Jun 8, 2022 Public Availability of the Release openSUSE Leap 15.4 will be released to the public at 12:00 UTC" I am running 15.0 and had planned to install 15.3 back in Aug but life got in the way, as it is still doing. My schedule looks way better for June, so looks like I can do 15.4 then. I see that 15.5 has already been authorized... I am rambling because it's late here but if I install 15.4 then, shouldn't I get a 18 months or so before I have to go through the process again? Moving to a newer version is always so time consuming; it's like buying a new recliner and getting it to feel as comfortable as the old one. Like, you gotta relearn how updated programs work, which ones no longer exist, etc. A real P.I.T.A. for the first 6 months or so. I just don't have the time or inclination any more to enjoy steep learning curves but technology marches on and an update is definitely required. Later ...

Why am I seeing a bajillion updates appearing in the updates mailing list, yet precisely zero of these have made it into the updates repositories? I can understand why I don't need the Firefox update, it appears to be for the upstream branding, whereas I am using the "in house" one. But for a lot of other packages, many of which are security updates, no such distinction applies (eg. chrony, java-11-openjdk).

Hello: Previously I asked what happened to rpm package groups in yast package manager. The answer was that is had been removed. What alternative can I use to find packages that belong to a certain category, for example network/ftp or graphics/viewers etc? I copy here part of my previous question to make it clear what I am talking about: In previous openSUSE/SuSE versions (eg in 13.1) there was an rpm group list option in yast package manager/view tab pulldown menu. It showed a list of rpm groups in a very detailed manner where I could show/hide groups and subgroups like directories and files in a file manager. How to repair OpenSuSE?

Hello, I have an openSuSE 15.2 x64 system which somehow managed to lose it's boot directory and perhaps a few other system files, I dunno. So it no longer boots up. I managed to restore it, using a live USB stick, a bit to the point where I could get it to boot to a command prompt but not to the point where I could use the network. Something about firewalld and dbus not starting was keeping me from getting any further. So I decided to try an repair the installation from a regular installation USB stick. I thought OpenSuSE used to supply a repair option but was unable to find it on either the live or the installation USB sticks. So I tried to use the upgrade option instead, but that did not repair or replace any existing files on my system, it just installed files that were needing to be upgraded from what was already installed. (just a few files were touched) And that actually made the system worse, I cannot even boot up to the command prompt for a single shell. Instead now the system goes into an endless cycle of error messages and will not boot up at all. So how does one repair OpenSuSE these days? Can I do it from a live CD? If so how? Live USB stick and partitioner

Hello - I keep encountering a problem that has occurred on all the 15.* version of OpenSuSE Live USB sticks, which I think may actually be a bug, but perhaps there is a workaround or a solution that I cannot find by Google. When I run a Live version of OpenSuSE I often want to use the YaST2 partitioner to mount partitions from an installed version of OpenSuSE that is on my hard drives. (I usually am trying to fix a problem that is preventing the disk installation from booting up) Trouble is, the YaST version of the partitioner (on the Live USB stick) complains that there is nothing mounted for the root directory "/" I don't grok this at all because the Live version does have something "mounted" for "/" but whatever is mounted does not show up in the YaST partitioner. Nor does fdisk - l show anything mounted for "/". I have tried mounting some other partition, including the root dir/partition for the disk installation of OpenSuSE, to satisfy this requirement but then I get into trouble because the live version thinks there are two mount points for "/" and often crashes. So my question is, how do I mount partitions from my disk drives when I am using a Live version of OpenSuSE? How do I handle the requirement that the YaST partitioner wants for mounting something as "/"? Gimp scripting - seeking help/scripter

Hello, it might be a bit off-topic, please excuse... I am looking for somebody who can write a small Gimp-Script for me (I'll pay for it, within reason). Ideally the script could also be called from bash. After looking in the Gimp scripting documentation and more pages I see that I'd need so much time to learn it that I rather continue to do the steps manually... I work everyday with Gimp on OpenSuse, and there are some simple basic steps I have to do with almost every image to retouch with what I believe is called "frequency-separation". There is a gmic filter that more or less does it, but it takes extremely long, I must set the parameters each time, and some I can't change, not even find out to what value they are set... The script should: 1. Open png-image 2: Duplicate layer twice (to have 3 identical layers) 3: Turn off visibility of bottom layer 4: Apply Gaussian blur on the middle layer with value 15 5: Set top layer to grain extract mode ("faser extrahieren") 6: Create new layer from visible 7: Delete the layer set to grain extract before 8: Set the new top layer to grain extract mode 9: Put top and middle layer in a new layers group, visible 10: Turn on visibility of bottom layer 11: Make blurred layer (second/bottom in layers group) active 12: Save as xcf with same file name in same folder I would like to have this script available to click within Gimp, but it would be fantastic when I could use it also from bash, so that I can let it run on all files in a folder, for example. Howto make the switch to OpenSuSE on the desktop as a primary system?

Hello list, non-desktop user of Linux here. How to best switch over to OpenSuSE on the desktop for daily normal gui life on the desktop? So far only on windows. I have a physical windows machine, I run gui and applications on it. The machine stays running. I lock the screen desktop. I return to the machine physically and have all my stuff running or available. Being remotely, what I often do in Windows ist tunnel to the windows machine via SSH means, and then remote desktop (microsoft rdp client) or VNC to the machine as a secondary means if needed. How do I make the switch over for this primary windows system into the linux desktop world? Occasionally I ssh to remote linux machines and use x11vnc and a vnc client to grab the real display:0 kind of physical screen pixel output of the linux machine and make it visible at my local place (also mostly being windows machines currently). X11vnc is often really sluggish on some targets even though the round trip time and the bandwidth allows plenty, I have not fugured out why the huge delays on certain x11vnc sessions happen. Anyways. How would I switch over from so far working on windows (normal firefox, mails/thunderbird, office documents related stuff) to a linux opensuse main machine. Reaching the windows or linux machine network wise via ssh tunnel is okay and dealt with i guess. How do I get my pixels to my off-site physical machine the best ways? I remember x11-servers and names of some such tools on windows from days back when hummingbird exceed or similar stuff. What would be the best practices to simply be able to access the screen of a linux machine from nearly anywhere from remotely in safe and sound means? That x11vnc attempt doesnt seem right to me. I read about newer concepts such as x2go, nomachines' nx and other stuff. . I also know about such stuff as teamviewer, anydesk and various vnc types and dialects. Also I read about that one can add some rdp (microsoft kind-of rdp server to the linux machine) and use normal rdp clients to connect to. Maybe I am going down the wrong road or doing things not in a fancy way. Thanks for insight.

Though recognized and powered up it seems to be disabled. I have gone into Yast to delete it rerun detest and checked enabled. NOt sure what log to check for the error. CWSIV

Hello - I am running openSuSE 15.3 x64 on a number of systems and use x11vnc/vncviewer to access them remotely. A problem, that is really annoying is that vncviewer often shows only a portion of the remote desktop and uses scrollbars to move the view around. The vertical scroll bar in particular, when moved to the extreme bottom causes the view to stop showing any open windows, and just show the basic desktop itself with whatever icons are placed on the desktop. This behavior is what I find very annoying and I would like to stop it. Can some kind guru tell me how? Hours googling has brought me no joy probably because I cannot find the right set of keywords for searching with. Thanks in advance if you can help me with this? Hi, I installed Zim on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, and the package failed to work. This is the error message I get: https://gist.github.com/simonconnah/4416b36aa0924794c204965dc6eec588 I installed Zim with a completely up to date version of OpenSUSE Tumbleweed using KDE. Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this issue? I can provide any extra information you need. Simon.
