[opensuse] Problem with a soft raid on system with 42.3 - contrasting information in yast and cat /proc/mdstat

I have created a raid with two dics time ago. The raid is a softraid in linux with RAID1. For quite some time it worked well. But now something is really wrong. The user is sometimes presented a "wrong" home with an older version. This comes and goes without understandable rule. The information on the RAID does not appear to be consistent. Non used: / dev / sdd1 Linux RAID To make this more puzzeling for me I have: # cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [raid1] md127 : active raid1 sdc1[0] 976760640 blocks super 1.0 [2/1] [U_] bitmap: 8/8 pages [32KB], 65536KB chunk unused devices: <none> The whole problem did arise when the PC had a faulty PSU that did not start all device contemporaneously or at all, as it seams. So suddenly the user found her/himself with two expression of /home. One current, one old, somewhat odd looking (no background picture) of the same user. This has been repaired with a new PSU in the meanwhile. No smart errors, hardware seems all good. Now when restarting the machine, in 90% of the cases the right disc is used. When checking in partition manager of yast, you find that: when all is O.K. / dev / sdc1 is used as active. When things go South on you for unknown reasons, the active disc is sdd1 instead. Both should be the same….but aren’t. Sdd1 should not be named as unused in yast when sdc1 is used. And sdc1 and sdd1 should not flip within the RAID and should contain the very same information. What is wrong here? I do not understand. PS. in the BIOS both discs are AHCI on the same controller. [opensuse] what's the best way to make charts of spreadsheet data?

I just made a chart of some data in LibreOffice Calc and was disappointed both by the process (very slow) and by the results (apparent lack of ability to modify the view). I've used spreadsheets sporadically over the years to make calculations but wouldn't call myself an expert and I can't remember the last time I tried to make a chart. So I know nothing. I'm wondering if I've missed something in LO that would help me have a better experience with this chart, or if there are better tools to use to draw charts from spreadsheet data. I asked on the LO list but only got one reply that only addressed one small issue, so I suppose there is no solution in LO. I thought I'd ask here to see what other software there is that can draw line charts, ideally from .ods data, and ideally with a GUI to set up the chart. But I can export the data in some other format and I can write config files to drive the layout if necessary. I'm running Version 6.1.3.2 of LibreOffice (actually the openSUSE build for Leap 15.0). I'm running a machine with an i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz and 8 GB main memory. It's normally fast enough for whatever I want to do. My spreadsheet data is in columns. Hourly samples of temperature and humidity. Column A is dates and column B is the times of day. I've also created column C that adds A+B to get a single value. Then ten columns of humidity data and eleven columns of temperature data. There are currently just over 5000 rows of samples. Making the chart was extremely slow. Every time I changed the Name of a line of the chart I had to wait whilst it cycled through several steps to make the change. Initially when I removed some empty columns from the data range, it took an age to do so. etc. Now I've created the chart and got some reasonable lines across it, but what I hope are the dates and times along the X axis are just a mess and I've no idea how to make them display usefully. I haven't found any way to select individual points on the chart to display the detailed value of that point or all the values at that time (a cursor). Nor do I see a way to temporarily hide individual data lines to more clearly see other particular lines, for example. If there's any way to do these things with an LO chart, and to speed it up, I'd be grateful for any pointers. Or if there are better options out there that can read .ods or .csv and display charts, that would be very interesting. Google just wants to tell me about a lot of diagramming tools. [opensuse] SAMBA, mounts and KDE

We are mounting some remote Windows 10 shares in a user's $HOME directory, using the automount capabilities in /etc/fstab. For example: //ladybug/LADYD /home/rst/LADYBUG/D cifs soft,credentials=/etc/cifs.creds.rst63,sec=ntlm,vers=3.02,rw,noauto,x-systemd.automount,x-systemd.idle-timeout=60,nofail,_netdev,uid=rst 0 0 This is working fine. In these systems, the Windows computers are shut down via an rdesktop connection. This is also working fine. The problem is that when the Windows computers are shut down, the KDE desktop freezes for a minute or so. The mouse moves. But nothing else is possible. Our theory is that when the Windows computers shut down, the shares are no longer available. It takes a while for the Linux system to realize that this has happened. And KDE is checking these directories because they are in $HOME. And while it is doing this, all other KDE activity ceases. I don't think it is a SAMBA issue. More a general remote file system issue and KDE. Hi Folks, A couple of my users have decided to stand up a large data store machine (NAS?) with as many as 44-ea 12-TB disks. They've grown weary of my way of doing things and are thinking about using only one or two HBA boards instead of a RAID adapter. Then, they're looking at doing software RAID using ZFS. Does anyone here have any experience with ZFS? How does it compare with Btrfs? ZFS performance suffers when an array starts to fill up, how does Btrfs handle full arrays? How many disks can be configured with RAID6 (or equivalent)? In other words, is there some maximum number of disks in a single array that if exceeded will cause performance degradation? I've had as many as 23-disks in a single hardware RAID6 array and it seems to work okay.
