[opensuse] Prometheus woes

OK, another silly question. Does anybody use prometheus? I just installed it but I'm not having much luck getting started with it. I installed it fromthe Leap 15.0 repositories. It runs and --version tells me: prometheus, version 2.1.0 (branch: non-git, revision: non-git) build user: abuild@lamb69 build date: 20180513-03:46:03 go version: go1.9.4 so at least it runs. I can't find any opensuse docs to tell me about anything specific (no man page in particular) so I'm relying on the 'Starting' section in https://prometheus.io/docs/introduction/first_steps/ which is not brilliant. I first tried running as my own user and failed with lack of permission to create /var/lib/prometheus/metrics so then I tried as root, which seemed to work but seems a bit weird, so then I tried user prometheus and that worked too, so is probably right, but it would be nice if there was opensuse docs to say so, and/or something on the web page to indicate it. Anyway, I then fired up a browser and pointed it at http://localhost:9090/graph and got a display. But it doesn't seem to work like https://prometheus.io/docs/introduction/first_steps/ says it should. I assume it means 'choose the "Console" view alongside the "Graph" tab' as opposed to what it does say. But it just says 'no data'. I assume that 'the expression console' is the text box at the top of the screen but nothing happens when I put the recommended string into it, and if I hit Execute, it says 'No datapoints found' Prometheus appears to log to the console where it was started, but apart from some messages saying it has started, there's nothing to indicate any problems. In /var/lib/prometheus/metrics/wal I have two files, one is 434K and the other is 256M so it's certainly storing something! What it is if not datapoints is beyond me. So anybody know what's going on? [opensuse] Recommendations for Markup syntax format

Hi all, I have a project that implies writing quite a lot of technical documentation. By "technical", I mean it will include: - list, numbered and unnumbered - a few tables - hypertext links of sources - a lot of footnote - excerpt of code and command lines - images - side comments (i.e. more detailed explanation about a word or notion that can't be included inline, so it won't break reading flow, but rather in side or foot notes) I already use Markdown (common markdown) a lot but I think it will be limited for my goal here. I consider using reStructuredText or AsciiDoc as I have heard that they are pretty efficient and standard format for documentation. I guess that some of you already use one of those. Do you have any advises about which one should I choose, any pros and cons of each ? Thank you in advance. [opensuse] Problem with a soft raid on system with 42.3 - contrasting information in yast and cat /proc/mdstat

I have created a raid with two dics time ago. The raid is a softraid in linux with RAID1. For quite some time it worked well. But now something is really wrong. The user is sometimes presented a "wrong" home with an older version. This comes and goes without understandable rule. The information on the RAID does not appear to be consistent. Yast reports: Dispositivo: • Dispositivo: /dev/md/homeraid • Dimensione: 931.51 GiB • Cifrato: No • ID del dispositivo 1: md-uuid-d9640ee4:3a9d7b72:68fa6b80:1b61dc7d ID del dispositivo 2: md-name-any:homeraid • Usato da 1: RAID: • Tipo di RAID: RAID1 • Dimensione blocco: • Algoritmi di parità: File system: • File system: Ext4 • Punto di montaggio: /home • Etichetta: But it reports the disc sdc as unused (it shouldn’t be reported like this, it should be active in RAID1 (homeraid). Non used: / dev / sdd1 Linux RAID To make this more puzzeling for me I have: # cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [raid1] md127 : active raid1 sdc1[0] 976760640 blocks super 1.0 [2/1] [U_] bitmap: 8/8 pages [32KB], 65536KB chunk unused devices: <none> The whole problem did arise when the PC had a faulty PSU that did not start all device contemporaneously or at all, as it seams. So suddenly the user found her/himself with two expression of /home. One current, one old, somewhat odd looking (no background picture) of the same user. This has been repaired with a new PSU in the meanwhile. No smart errors, hardware seems all good. Now when restarting the machine, in 90% of the cases the right disc is used. When checking in partition manager of yast, you find that: when all is O.K. / dev / sdc1 is used as active. When things go South on you for unknown reasons, the active disc is sdd1 instead. Both should be the same….but aren’t. Sdd1 should not be named as unused in yast when sdc1 is used. And sdc1 and sdd1 should not flip within the RAID and should contain the very same information. What is wrong here? I do not understand. PS. in the BIOS both discs are AHCI on the same controller. [opensuse] what's the best way to make charts of spreadsheet data?

I just made a chart of some data in LibreOffice Calc and was disappointed both by the process (very slow) and by the results (apparent lack of ability to modify the view). I've used spreadsheets sporadically over the years to make calculations but wouldn't call myself an expert and I can't remember the last time I tried to make a chart. So I know nothing. I'm wondering if I've missed something in LO that would help me have a better experience with this chart, or if there are better tools to use to draw charts from spreadsheet data. I asked on the LO list but only got one reply that only addressed one small issue, so I suppose there is no solution in LO. I thought I'd ask here to see what other software there is that can draw line charts, ideally from .ods data, and ideally with a GUI to set up the chart. But I can export the data in some other format and I can write config files to drive the layout if necessary. I'm running Version 6.1.3.2 of LibreOffice (actually the openSUSE build for Leap 15.0). I'm running a machine with an i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz and 8 GB main memory. It's normally fast enough for whatever I want to do. My spreadsheet data is in columns. Hourly samples of temperature and humidity. Column A is dates and column B is the times of day. I've also created column C that adds A+B to get a single value. Then ten columns of humidity data and eleven columns of temperature data. There are currently just over 5000 rows of samples. Making the chart was extremely slow. Every time I changed the Name of a line of the chart I had to wait whilst it cycled through several steps to make the change. Initially when I removed some empty columns from the data range, it took an age to do so. etc. Now I've created the chart and got some reasonable lines across it, but what I hope are the dates and times along the X axis are just a mess and I've no idea how to make them display usefully. I haven't found any way to select individual points on the chart to display the detailed value of that point or all the values at that time (a cursor). Nor do I see a way to temporarily hide individual data lines to more clearly see other particular lines, for example. If there's any way to do these things with an LO chart, and to speed it up, I'd be grateful for any pointers. Or if there are better options out there that can read .ods or .csv and display charts, that would be very interesting. Google just wants to tell me about a lot of diagramming tools.
