[opensuse] Leap 42.3, VCN, Firefox -> VNC session closes

I have noted a weird issue where I can VNC into a Leap 42.3 box, but when I fire up Firefox and go to a certain page (for the iLO on one of the servers I work with), the VNC session closes. the interesting this is this does not happen with chromium, at least I haven't it happen so far. With Firefox, the problem is pretty reproducible. Does anyone know which logs I should look at to see why VNC is disconnecting this way? Most definitely. The steady stream of patches flowing into Leap has made it very much a rolling distro. Those are virtually all coming from SLES, (much?) less so from openSUSE contributors. [opensuse] kernel dmesg output on virtual terminals

Hi list, on our server, the dmesg kernel output is printed to all virtual terminals. The machine is Leap 42.3 (just dup-ed from 42.2). The problem already existed with 42.2, and ISTR that it started when I removed plymouth from the system (it's a server, most of the time even without connected monitor). Could that be the case? And what to do against it? I know here's more people around with disabled plymouth. Do you also suffer this issue? Any suggestions what to look for? [opensuse] Mysterious serial port (serial8250)

Hi list, Today I needed to do some adjustment work that uses serial communication. I use cutecom for this (and can really recommend it!). However when I started it - nothing happened! It took some 30s, then the window popped up. When I clicked on the serial selection pulldown menu, again everything was dead for half a minute or so. Once I had opened a device it worked normally. Later I ran cutecom through strace and saw that when it hangs, it opens /dev/ttyS0 and closes it. This close seems to hang the whole process. Now the question is: What is this ttyS0!? This is a laptop... OK, it has a docking station, but that doesn't have a (physical) port either. So looking at the journal, I see kernel: Serial: 8250/16550 driver, 32 ports, IRQ sharing enabled kernel: serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4, base_baud = 115200) is a 16550A I looked in /proc/interrupts, but 4 isn't listed there. So how do I find out what this is? My search ended up in /sys/devices/platform/serial8250/tty/ttyS0 but I don't really get a clue from what I see there :o The serial8250 driver is built fixed into the kernel, and seems important(?) and disabling not recommended... Can I somehow tell it to ignore that device, whatever it is? [opensuse] excessively large fonts in a qt application in gnome

I am running the viber desktop application on my desktop and on my laptop. On my laptop I use gnome because the battery lasts significantly longer than if I am using KDE. So, one of the problems I just ran into is that when running viber, because it is a qt application, the fonts are huge, and I cannot reduce the gui to a small enough level to make it useable. I have no idea where to start on how to reduce the fonts for a qt application in gnome. Normal font adjustments on the gnome tweak tool don't do anything for this qt application. It is currently at the nuisance level. When I boot, the laptop does not recognize the disk and asks to insert one and press a key. I have to ctrl-alt-supr to try again. It takes a longish time (minute?) then suddenly grub appears, or not, with the error message again as a single text line at the top.
