[opensuse] Display artifacts in Leap 42.3, on oldish laptop with Intel Video

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 Hi, I just upgraded my laptop to Leap 42.3 from 42.2 (offline upgrade aka dvd method), and I see artifacts on the display: areas that do not redraw, typically the menu area of a window. Some time whole windows that take seconds to redraw after switching the workarea. Gkrelmm has zones that are unreadable for long time, even if I put another window on top to try force a redraw (the CPU_0 panel, for instance, is gargabe). This instant, the whole Thunderbird went unreadable as I switched worskpace (I'm typing at Alpine). [opensuse] How to Remove Packman

I received a security update for Lame, but it wouldn't install due to vendor change. I decided to remove Packman as I only use it for playing MP3 and it doesn't seem to be necessary for that anymore. So I went into yast2 sw_single and selected the repository view, and selected Packman and then selected Delete all packages in this list. I had to resolve dependencies which I did by selecting downgrade or de-installation in every case. One of the things it removed was Chromium. I then disabled Packman, and re-installed Chromium. But this seemed to re-install libmp3lame from Packman even though it was disabled. So I removed it again and then removed Packman, then re-installed Chromium. This time it installed libmp3lame0 from openSUSE-Leap-42.3-Update. [opensuse] how to "clean" memory and swap without booting?

Hello, firefox sometimes fills my memory (*) and then the system begins to swap and slows down. So I closed all firefox windows - no change. I logged out and in again - no change. I did swapoff -a, and then swapon -a and this freed swap, but still memory is almost full, so it would soon again start swapping. How can I get rid of all that memory that firefox has "eaten" without rebooting? Thanks for hints! Daniel (*) This happens when I open and close many windows. Concrete: I am looking thru an archive of a tumblr blog and click on the thumbs, which opens new windows. Then maybe I do something in that new window (for example reblog or like) or just close it again and go on in the archive. Sometimes I go thru that archive for many years, thus many scrolls down. I guess, firefox keeps all in memory what I've looked at, and so of course it fills up memory. I would have thought, that this gets freed when I close all firefox instances, but no. So then I thought it should get free at least when I log out and in again, but no. So, to get back may system to normal working speed I need to reboot. Like every two hours... [opensuse] vsftpd transfer limit?

Hi list, I'm running a vsftpd server on my gateway machine (Leap 42.3). I try to set it up so someone can upload things there. This works fine, however I only get 1MB/s upload speed :( If I use scp instead (from the same source computer), I easily get 6-7MB/s, probably limited by the decryption on the Celeron CPU (plain downloads go past 10MB/s) So something is limiting ftp upload - but what? I tried the *_max_rate settings in vsftpd.conf. They had not been set, and should default to 0 = unlimited. I setthem to 0 explicitely, but no change. I also checked on the sending side whether the client has limits, but ftp> throttle put Put transfer rate throttle: off; maximum: 0; increment 1024. [opensuse] What is the best practice to install opensuse Leap 42.3 on a SSD with EXT4?

The system: non(!) UEFI, normal BIOS, AMD video and processor. The SSD is an OWC with 60 GB entirely dedicated to the OS, set as first system disk. The /home is separate on a different disc. So it is about /boot or not /boot? The system will host only(!) Linux, no other OS. Question is, were to put best the boot loader, to minimize problems in the future updates / upgrades. My choice for file system on that machine is EXT4 no encrypted. Mainboard is set to AHCI and running with SATA6. [opensuse] lvm on a drbd device ?

I need a second pair of eyes. Or a third or a fourth. I am working on a drbd test setup. Two machines, each has a 2Tb disk, 3 partitions (root, swap, drbd). drbd will eventually be controlled by pacemaker, for now I am just starting and stopping manually. I had drbd working fine, but then I created an lvm PV on /dev/drbd1 and carved out a 10Gb LV. When I boot up either of the two systems, I see a PV: office36:~ # pvdisplay WARNING: Device for PV k2i0DX-Gsao-z8pt-zLDD-Iv4b-qkq1-gGxdoW not found or rejected by a filter. I want to build my VM with a specific subset of packages, and not all the extra "bloat" that comes along with a usual live image, like a GUI. So I'm not really sure where the idea of a live server OS image fits into the grander picture?
