I understand the rationalization, it's easier to get to bootable snapshots and rollbacks this way. [opensuse] okular sucks

I have to vent my anger and frustration somewhere ..... okular really does not cut it for office work. For a whole hour now I've been trying to get it to print a PDF document with stamps on C5 envelopes, but without success. With Acrobat Reader this was no big deal, done in 5 minutes. With Okular, either I get nothing, something in the wrong format (wasted envelopes) or the job hangs in cups as "pending". I was aiming at getting a stack of invoices to the postoffice before it closes at 18, fat chance. [opensuse] can't boot (wrong UUID?)

openSUSE Tumbleweed here on a multi-boot system. One of the other Linux installs reformatted the swap partition, so it has a different UUID now. As far as I can tell, that's keeping SUSE from booting, because it drops to an emergency shell and one of the last messages I see says that the UUID for the swap partition doesn't exist. I edited /etc/fstab to change it to match /dev/disk/by-uuid, and I also edited the "resume=" lines in grub.cfg, but it still won't boot (with the same message referencing the old UUID). I can't find anyplace else where the old UUID is specified. [opensuse] An observation about printers. - An OPINION piece.

For quite a long time I have watched the list(s) and see a lot of people having issues printing. As best as I can recall it is usually some printer like a Brother, Kodak, a recent example a Kyocera. Very soon after I quit using dot matrix printers I stopped buying anything other than HP printers. No other brand seemed as reliable. Bought a nice Epson. A few months later it went toes up. Tried a couple other brands with similar results. I've got an old HP All-In-one on my desk that I have retired from active printing and use just the scanner bed. Been there for years. The ink dried up in the cartridges years ago. But the bloody thing just keeps working. If I put in the new cartridges it would print just like when it was new. When I switched over to Linux my printers just worked, after I learned to install HPLIP. Some time back we decided it was foolish to have multiple printers, each with a different ink cartridge, so we bought an HP network printer. Worked right out of the box. Set it up with CUPS and off and running. As in the subject line, this is my observations on printers. The issues with printers on the list(s) just reinforces my opinion to never own anything but HP printers. You are welcome to have differing opinions. That's your right. I do not own any HP stock. I receive no compensation from HP in any form other than printers that work, which I purchase with my hard earned money just like you purchase yours. [opensuse] direct computer-to-computer voip program

Hello: Maybe I asked this before but can't find any reference. Is there any voip program for linux/openSUSE that works directly from computer to computer? Something similar to skype but without the need of registration and use a central server. I think of something with server and client part and make calls directly between them knowing the other computers IP address. Possibly can be directed through ssh tunnel or encrypted. [opensuse] preventing 'no space lef ton device' error

Hello: This applies to openSUSE 13.2 system with its default btrfs file system. So far the system has crashed two times because of snapshots occupied all free space. How can I make sure that it will not happen again? I regularly check space availability using df -h command. Is the output of this reliable? [opensuse] Grub2 fails to boot (opensuse 13.2)

I do not normally switch off my desktop so when grub stopped working I don't exactly know. However, my system became unbearably slow so I decided to reboot only to find that it just hung. I put in an installation CD and selected "boot from hard disk" and it did without displaying any grub menu.. I checked the grub installation and everything seemed fine but it won't boot. So I decided to do a reinstall of opensuse 13.2. The installation went well; no issues flagged up. When it finally got to rebooting it just hung as before (with nothing displayed on the screen). So I created a separate boot partition and reinstalled no error message, no change, no success. I recreated my root partition as a primary partition (originally in was part of my extended partition). Still no difference. Well I can still use my computer but I cannot boot it without a CD and there is no sign of any grub menu. I find it annoying but I can live with it (for now). The puzzling thing is that it was working okay originally, but has suddenly stopped working. I have tried writing grub to the root, boot and MBR at different times. All has come back as successfully written but still no boot. Has anyone any idea of what's going on or has anyone had a similar experience and if so how did you resolve it? Thanks in advance.
