20150612 reached the 'K' in the lower left corner, so I could manage some programs. very carefully because the slightest deviation with the curser led to a crash. 20150630 came to a small green rectangle in the lower left corner and some times, after a waitingtime of some ten minutes to a choice of some unknown session. When I made a choice the machine felt back to the small green rectangle. A further trial led to a crash. 20150702 did not even come to the small green rectangle when it crashed. What can this openSUSE user since the last twenty years do? [opensuse] zypper 'dup' & 've' disagree; zypper keeps wanting to deinstall Dolphin ?

I'm working on an Opensuse 13.2, getting next-gen KDE (plasma5 + KF5 + etc) up & running. After installing/upgrading the needed changes, zypper tells me zypper dup ... Nothing to do. But when I verify with zypper zypper ve Loading repository data... [opensuse] NoScript Flaw

Mozilla’s script blocker add-on could be putting malware sites on the whitelist. Security researchers have discovered a major flaw with Mozilla’s popular NoScript security add-on. NoScript is supposed to create an environment where JavaScript, Java, and other executable content can only run in scripts that come from a trusted domain. According to Detectify researcher Linus Särud, NoScript whitelists the entire googleapis.com domain and any subdomain, which means an attacker could create a nefarious script that uses Google services APIs to bypass NoScript. The discovery follows an earlier project by Matthew Bryant, who successfully launched an attack that bypassed whitelist protections. It isn’t clear whether attackers are already using this technique. The discovery challenges the prestige of the Mozilla NoScript plugin, which bills itself as “The best security you can get in a web browser!” According to a report in the Register, the NoScript team immediately responded by adapting the tool to whitelist only Google's hosted libraries at ajax.googleapis.com, which should reduce the threat, although it might require more intervention from the user to get any necessary legitimate sites whitelisted. Users are encouraged to install updates. Bryant adds, “Please purge your whitelist. Hello, since there is no RPM for SuSE 13.1 and apcupsd-3.14.13 (did not find one) I compiled the sources. But then the start at boot time does not work. Unpacked the old rpm for apcupsd-3.14.10. test> rpm2cpio apcupsd-3.14.10-6.4.1.x86_64.rpm | cpio -idmv and copied the structure (only without man and docpages): ./srv/www/cgi-bin/upsimage.cgi ./srv/www/cgi-bin/multimon.cgi ./srv/www/cgi-bin/upsstats.cgi ./srv/www/cgi-bin/upsfstats.cgi ./var/adm/fillup-templates/sysconfig.apcupsd [...manpages and doc... ] [...usr sbin files also not copied ] ./usr/lib/systemd/system/apcupsd.service ./usr/lib/systemd/system-shutdown/apcupsd_shutdown [ stuff in ./etc/apcupsd/ not copied ] ./etc/pm/sleep.d/99apcupsd ./etc/logrotate.d/apcupsd to the correspoding directories. ./usr/sbin/apctest ./usr/sbin/apcupsd ./usr/sbin/smtp ./usr/sbin/apcaccess were not copied since version 3.14.13 installs: /sbin/apctest /sbin/apcupsd /sbin/smtp /sbin/apcaccess I just made links: /usr/sbin/apcaccess -> /sbin/apcaccess /usr/sbin/apctest -> /sbin/apctest /usr/sbin/apcupsd -> /sbin/apcupsd /usr/sbin/smtp -> /sbin/smtp Yast2 showed apcups and I was able to start the service. reboot also shows: more /var/log/boot.log [...] Starting APC UPS Power Control Daemon for Linux... [...] [ OK ] Started APC UPS Power Control Daemon for Linux. [...] Everything seems to work. # apcaccess status [...] DATE : 2015-07-13 01:04:04 +0200 HOSTNAME : mymachine VERSION : 3.14.13 (02 February 2015) suse [...] also looks ok. /var/log/apcupsd.events previously had ...apcupsd 3.14.10 (13 September 2011) suse startup succeeded and now ...apcupsd 3.14.13 (02 February 2015) suse startup succeeded with a tiny test: 2015-07-13 00:29:56 +0200 Power failure. 2015-07-13 00:30:02 +0200 Running on UPS batteries. 2015-07-13 00:30:18 +0200 Mains returned. No longer on UPS batteries. 2015-07-13 00:30:18 +0200 Power is back. UPS running on mains. [opensuse] Opensuse on a usb flash disk: installation and partitioning advice needed

Hello, new to OpenSuse but not new to Linux (10+ years plus some BSD experience). I am thinking of having a go at OpenSuse and I was thinking of installing it on a 16GB flash drive to play with it before transferring it onto a partition on my old Thinkpad (64bit). Is there anything I should know before installation? Which is the best filesystem? Ext2, Ext4 without journalling or other? What's a recommended partitioning layout in case I want to keep my applications but reinstall the base system one day? Does the live image support persistent settings? [opensuse] 13.1 FF38 - Why all the new "Secure Connection Failed" screens?

All, I don't know if this is flash-player related (doubt it) or some other 'feature' in FF38, but not FF is flashing up screens of: <quote> Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to startpage.com. Peer's certificate has an invalid signature. (Error code: sec_error_bad_signature) The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem. [Try Again?] Report this error </quote> Really? It is 'startpage.com' I used it all morning, now sec_error_bad_signature? I also get this page for all other wordpress sites. WTF? -- David C. IIRC when the 'heartbleed' SSL bug was discovered last year (April?), I simply built a new rpm with the new source for my then 11.4 box. You need to check the version carefully and check for a test to detect the vulnerability on your system if the version number is ambiguous. -- David C. [opensuse] Zebra printers & Cups

Hi, I would like to install a Zebra EPL1/EPL2 label-printer on Opensuse (both 13.1 and 13.2). It seems those printers are not available. On sourceforge I found zebraCupsDrivers.zip, but this does not contain these printers (only zpl). OpenPrinting.org has only one Zebra-printer, but it's not the type I need. How can I install such a printer ? On Ubuntu-systems these printers are available, but I can't find where the ppd's of the printers are located. Any suggestions ? I downloaded the cups-source-rpm's but those do not contain ppd's AFAICT.
