[opensuse] Errors in /var/log/messages

My machine powered off today on it's own so while investigating I found several errors in /var/log/messages. It's been a while since I've have reason to look at the file. The only startup trouble I've had in the last several years was a video issue which seems to have resolved itself. Several of these messages indicate kernel changes and deprecation of things I am using. Will the next update take care of these for me or must I fix them myself. I have been using zypper to upgrade the last few times. I 've plugged the machine into a new UPS and so far it hasn't restarted. [opensuse] Does chown work on directories on a NAS that uses cifs?

I have traced one of my troubles to one of ownership of a directory and it's contents. MySQL requires ownership of the data directory. This I found out the hard way. I ran 'sudo chown -R' on the directory in question on that NAS, but after I did so, Linux still seems to think that root still owns the directory and its contents. Why? And how should I fix this? hdparm didn't work for my external drive, but maybe try sdparm? [opensuse] Hard disks in vertical position?

If you wanted to place them vertically, the documentation also specified which face had to look down, but warned that the wear would be worse. So I always put them horizontally, without thinking. But I'm about to place one vertically, and I don't see any mention of this in the documentation. Have things changed, or have I missed something in the docs? I am trying to create a /srv/www/htdocs/index.html content for a opensuse apache/lamp/cacti installation test server on http://127.0.0.1/ I am trying to use the cacti documentation listed in [1], and I am need help to get to the install screens. [opensuse] UI Error while installing KVM

Hello mates, today i've tried to install KVM with doing that steps: 1.) Click on System/Virtualisazion/Install XEN or KVM wirh Management Tools -> It loads the repositories -> It asks if the needed packages can installed 2.) Click on 'yes' -> A red button with an UI Error comes up. [opensuse] what to do after zypper dup

12.3 Hi I have some repos which need updating so I run zypper dup. If I run zypper up, they don't get updated. After the show, I get: There are some running programs that use files deleted by recent upgrade. You may wish to restart some of them. Run 'zypper ps' to list these programs. and then: You may wish to restart these processes. Say there are 10 processes. Is there something like: zypper restart-processes-after-dup? Normally I can reboot or dup when we have fewer users, but what if I can't?
