[opensuse] SuSE studio, NFS/httpd/misc appliance, and 4TB drives

Hi, all -- You may remember from earlier this year that I asked about how to not spend a lot of time building and maintaining my disk farm server and was pointed to susestudio. It sounds awesome, and I'm gonna get there -- I promise :-) Actually, it's time, because I've just gotten a pair of 4T drives and find that I can't access them. I only have an older BIOS-based system available, but I'm hopeful that I can find GPT-enabled kernels in the studio images so that I can use these. My plan is to boot from flash drive in order to maintain as many SATA slots as possible for data drives, so I don't expect to have to boot from these guys; I just need to be able to address them. I don't know if that makes my BIOS-based adventures any easier, though. Can anyone provide any pointers on - using >2T drives for data in a BIOS-based system - susestudio appliances and GPT and large drives, oh my - and, since I'm here, getting started with susestudio to get me headed in the right direction? [opensuse] top reporting %mem incorrectly?

This morning when I logged into my computer, I noticed that my system monitor was saying that I was using up ~6GB of memory, so I decided to fire up top and see what was using it. And I noticed something - the %mem fields look really off. For example, Chrome is using ~1G, and it says that's 10.7% of memory. But, Virtualbox is using ~1.3G, and it says that it's only using 0.5% of memory? I thought, well, maybe it's just showing the percentage used by that individual process but the amount of all of the processes with the same name, but nope, there's only one VirtualBox process running. Is this a bug, or is something else going on? I'm running 32-bit oS 12.3 with 8GB of memory. [opensuse] oS 12.3 - why the long delay....

...when the boot process reaches the stage 'Starting Login Service'? I have noticed this for quite some time but hadn't bothered about this until now. When the system is booting there is a pause of 21.7 seconds when the kernel messages on the screen show 'Starting Login Service'. After this pause the login screen is reached in about 3 seconds. Anybody know why there is this long pause, please? I really don't remember when this started but if it is of any relevance this delay is present even in the just-upgraded kernel 3.11.1-2. [opensuse] How to call a script for all files in a directory?

Hi how can a bash script look up the contents of a directory and call another script for all files within this directory? It would be great to have those files sorted by name or create-date first before the names get thrown at the second script. [opensuse] Any chance of convincing Gimp to consider a .png as a valid saved image?

If I scan a dozen images, I have to keep track of what I save to PNG or JPG, because GIMP insists that none are saved and that I'm going to lose my data. It wants me to save as XCF and I will not. Is there a working updated gimp version. The version I have, aside from just being aweful, is broken when saving pngs from xfc and when I upgraded it complained of a wrong libgimp version. I have a OSS 12.3 machine running apache2 and subversion. Some updated obtained lately via zypper up seems to have broken subversion to where accessing subversion via apache causes a segfault in the apache child. I also noticed that an apache update is not getting via zypper up. Attempting to manually install this updates shows: zypper up apache2 Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies... [opensuse] Memory reported incorrectly?

This is odd. I'm not sure how to diagnose it. I've got an Acer Iconia W700 laptop/tablet. http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model-datasheet/NT.L0QAA.005 I just installed oS 13.1 on it and noticed the memory wasn't reported correctly... I was seeing 1.8GB instead of the 4GB it actually has. So... as part of my testing before asking on the ML, I installed oS 12.3. It's also showing only 1.8GB. Hello, I need some help to complete a software installation/configuration/setup for cacti software. The documentation I am using is at http://en.opensuse.org/Cacti Question: How is this error fixed ? to compelete the installation. The bit I am stuck on is the Apache and Cacti configuration.
