[opensuse] KDE activities + task-manager

Is it normal that non-KDE applications (firefox, thunderbird, acroread...) tend to show up in the task-manager no matter on which activity they were started and with 'only show tasks from current activity' enabled? I find this quite strange. Sometimes I manage to move one application to just one activity (window settings --> activities ...), but it doesn't last for long. [opensuse] Problem with acroread 9.4.7-3.7.1 and libpango

Hello, I tried to install acroread 9.4.7-3.7.1 on my OpenSuSE 12.1 64Bit and get the following error message: "nothing provides libpango-1.0.so.0 needed by acroread..." See here: http://www.imagebanana.com/view/qfa95ncy/acroreadlibpangoproblem.png libpango is installed but as libpango-1_0-0 Does the underscore make a problem here? [opensuse] new hardware, system won't boot up in 2nd partion with RAID1 setup

Hi all, I just upgraded my hardware and I have RAID 1 set up and working on the first 2 partitions after swap of both my hard drives.It boots ok into the first RAID partition, /dev/md0, with openSUSE12.1. However, I am now unable to get my backup partition started on /dev/md2, where I have openSUSE 11.4 installed. When I try and boot into /dev/md2, my system gets past grub, but then as it is booting up, udev sets up device /dev/md126 on 2 drives (I don't know which RAID this is or where it gets the number 126), and then it cannot find the root drive. (It does not do that when I boot into /dev/md0, where I have openSUSE 12.1 installed.) When I select the 3rd option I set up on grub, to boot into openSUSE 11.4 on my degraded RAID, this is what shows up on the boot sequence: doing fast boot Creating device nodes with udev mdadm: /dev/md126 has been started with 2 drives. Trying manual resume from /dev/disk/by-label/swap2 Invoking userspace resume from /dev/disk/by-label/swap2 resume: libgcrypt version 1.4.6 Trying manual resume from /dev/disk/by-label/swap2 Invoking in-kernel resume from /dev/disk/by-label/swap2 Waiting for device /dev/disk/by-label/AltOldLinuxRoot to appear: .^[................................ Could not find /dev/disk/by-label/AltOldLinuxRoot. Want me to fall back to /dev/disk/by-label/root? (Y/n) So it never finds the RAID partition to boot into it, even though grub found it no problem (I had to set up the degraded RAID specifying metadata 1.0, because when I tried it with the default 1.2, the superblock is stored 4k from the start, so grub couldn't find the boot directory). Ok, here is some background. What I am trying to do is also be able to boot into /dev/md2 while it is still a degraded RAID. Grub reads my menu.lst file just fine. [opensuse] nfs issue

Hi all, Yesterday i tried to export from a 12.1 system towards some 11.4 systems (nfs4) and i came across something unexpected (for me at least) In the tree that i export, i have mounted some logical volumes At the receiving end, i see the imported tree, but everything that is mounted (on the nfs server) does not appear. I know that it is nit good practice to re-export nfs-mount, but in this case i try to export a bumch of loccally mounted volumes. Sure i can nfs-export each volume individually, but i hoped i god do this in a more practical way. been googling about "submounts" but no clue yet if either i am doing something wrong, or that it is not possible in the first place. [opensuse] moving half a raid drive to a new pc

I am upgrading my system at my office and at home, and right now I am in a bit of a limbo state because I can't get my new pc to boot from the hard disk. Maybe some help with grub can get me going, or with a degraded raid. Right now I am using a live kde cd (I am so pleased at how easy it is to use one of these :) ) So here is the way things are. I was running raid 0 on my old desktop. I have built a new desktop (with a better processor and more ram) and I took one of the raid drives off my old desktop and installed it in in my new desktop. I have also added a 2nd tb drive and partitioned it to exactly match the sizes on my old one, with the ultimate goal of having raid 0 on all partitions of both drives (before I was only using raid 0 on half the drive because I was mirroring a 500gb with half of a 1 tb drive). However, I have not yet installed anything on the new drive. I am finding that when I boot up in the live linux cd, like I am now, I cannot mount the raid partitions to modify the menu.lst file or anything like that because they are looked at as "Linux raid autodetect" instead of ext4. So my question is, is there a way for me to boot up into /dev/sda2 as a degraded raid, so as to begin setting up my system on this new hardware? I thought that perhaps if I just used the install disk of opensuse 12.1 and did an "upgrade" on the old raid partition, it would fix everything so that I could boot into that drive. However, nothing really changed, except that some new packages were installed. [opensuse] OpenSuSE-11.x thru 12.1: "/dev/.sysconfig"?

What justifies putting a hidden directory with files in /dev? rkhunter and other auditing tools complain about the existence of this directory and it's files.
