[opensuse] SuSE 12.1: KMail 4.7.2 unusable

I just transferred my emails from my old kmail to the kmail 4.7.2 in OpenSuSE 12.1 via import. Afterwards akonadi_agent_l is really going "mad". When I tried to resort the approx 65k of SuSE mailinglist stuff it went "mad" second time (I had to kill kmail and akonadi_agent_l). Sometimes nepomukservices, akonadi_nepomuk, akonadiserver also jump in and the (quadcore !) machine uses nearly 90% of CPU for that crap! What are these programs doing (I was not able to find a manpage for this on my downloaded 12.1)? Can I make them completely silent or switch them off? [opensuse] Wifi broken after update: 12.1

Hi, I just installed 12.1 on a quadcore eeepc seashell series. While installing the option wpa(1,2)psk tkip was not present, so had to use a rope. When testing the network, both rope and wifi did not work. After login in the networkmanager did succeed in finding network, and accepting my passphrase, so it worked. I wifi-d the update: truckload of packages, after that wifi broken. Does not scan or see or find the network. The rope does work. *I forgot: what package did i have to update again to get it working again?* Oh and the security is tremendously overdone with network setting: twice rootpasword wallet, also twice, but still no connection. Maybe the attention got to the wrong stuff? As my network is already protected, why do i need root password, and kdewallet to get acces to these settings? [opensuse] problems building perl 5.14.2 or 5.16.0 using RPMBUILD, build from tar or perlbrew (a cpan util)

I run into the same problems building 5.16.0 whether I run from perlbrew or rpmbuild. I'm sorta wondering how perl is built for the distribution if I am having such a hard time rebuilding it or building it on a suse system. This points to a problem I mentioned a few years back with the build system. If something only builds on a remote build system -- you end up with a proprietary build system that can't easily be reproduced to rebuild products. The whole idea of open source was to be able to fix things in it that were broken by building your own. If I can't do that -- easily -- on my own system, I'm beginning to wonder how well that fits the definition of 'open source'. Right now, I have 2 main failure modes depending on how I build. If I build from a fresh login -- a default config: sh Configure -de make make test That doesn't work -- Configure gets confused and drops in 'null' for programs (like make, rm, and maybe a few others). FWIW,,, zypper ve, shows all dependencies are verified -- that my system is 'coherent'... So won't this build? (Have had problems rebuilding samba as well, so I don't think it is just perl). Building 5.14.2 --- fails in a different but consistent way -- one of the files processed when building a ".xs" file from a .c file puts a bogus "#line file" line in that is missing the line number.... [opensuse] New kernel - 12.1 not shutting down properly

A few days ago, there was a new kernel update for openSUSE 12.1. Since then, I've noticed that my ThinkPad E520 will no longer shut off. Also, I'm unable to recover from sleep mode, after closing the cover. Applied LOTS of grease to the shaft and finally stopped. Also, found a loose hose to the Ampico switch, once connected, Ampico expressions started working again. Tried reroll and replay many times seems to be fixed again. N/C Bought $25 Spanish roll. Sending invoice soon. 04/09/12: Roll does not rewind - pull off top spool 03/19/12: Bottom spool problems - left as Auto Reroll 01/30/12: Rolls stopped after 2 rolls. Found the large roll slready on, not properly set on the right side flange and roll spindle - roll was underneath the roll spindle. Really need the 3/8" elbows so the drawer can be pushed in. 01/2?/12: Coustomer closed the drawer and the hoses became disconnected. Put a little thin film of CA on the nipple and reattached the hoses. 01/20/12: Install rebuilt box pump; lubed left end of the bottom spool to keep from dumping into reroll; started to test with test roll - checked on the first test and found that the tubing was different or may be an an Ampico B - so stopeed and buttoned it up. Tempo is still no right - don't know how to get to it. 01/13/12: Tuned, replaced 3 drawer to action hoses 3/8" x 14-1/2"; tried to fix tempo lever - could not find to right place to adjust it. Before doing Ampico test roll - check vacuum at box pump - was not at 30" - box pump needed rebuild. Gave customer the history of the piano. Not invoiced yet. 12/22/11: Check player piano tracking and hoses. When I try to format using: sudo /sbin/mkfs.vfat -F 32 MULTIBOOT /dev/sdb1 I get the following error: mkfs.vfat 3.0.10 (12 Sep 2010) MULTIBOOT: No such file or directory I copied this from a message on e-mail.
