[opensuse] PPC Factory

Hi All, I know that there isn't anymore support for the ppc architecture, but was promised that the ppc factory version will be still deployed. I've downloaded the last snapshot of it ( http://powerpc.opensuse.org/factory/iso/ ) and the iso is not bootable. Try to boot from the 11.1 net ppc added the factory repo, and the repo is unusable too. Anyone can please check this? [opensuse] No sound in Wine

[opensuse] CUPS doesn't recognize Brother HL-1430

Hi, I own a Brother HL-1430 printer. Somehow CUPS doesn't recognize my printer is connected (via USB). lsusb shows the connected printer: Bus 002 Device 007: ID 04f9:001a Brother Industries, Ltd HL-1430 Laser Printer But neither CUPS nor the YaST printing module "find" my printer. YaST tells me "No Connections" after the attempt to detect a connected printer. Clicking "Detect more" doesn't help either. [opensuse] screen blanking and movies- two problems- slightly off topic

The system is 64 bit 11.1, running kde3.5 and multimedia from packman. The two apps used for movies are vlc for native linux movie going and silverlight running in a windoze virtual box vm. perhaps this should also be sent to the vlc , kde3 and virtual box forums, but i thought i would give it a try here as well: when watching a movie with vlc the screen blanking is correctly turned off, however it does not resume after vlc is turned off. checking the running processes, sometimes i see the app suspending blanking on after vlc is turned off, sometimes i have seen about 4-5 duplicate processes, sometimes none. but something is obviously still left behind. The problem with silver light is of course a windoze problem, perhaps solvable by virtual box. If the screen blanking is on, the screen will go blank at precisely the wrong moment of the movie, from the linux control. the windoze power control is turned off. Thanks for the suggestions. Actually, I could get X forwarding to work along these lines, but with a different combination: AllowTcpForwarding: didn't matter whether I enabled it or not / commented out or not. X11Forwarding: was set to "yes" already X11DisplayOffset: didn't change anything X11UseLocalhost: was commented out (and set to "yes"), I had to uncomment it and change its value to "no" and then X forwarding started to work! [opensuse] slow dsl connection

i recently installed 11.3 on a friend's computer who lost his hard drive and didn't want to pay for a microsoft license during the install there was a dialog, or setting window with a button that said "medium connection, fast computer" in my arrogance i changed it to say "fast connection, fast computer" since the install his downloads have been as slow as glaciers move, and all video streaming is herky-jerky as the video struggles to keep up with the program -- he cannot watch youtube or hulu, two of his favorite things, the pauses are so frequent and aggravating i have looked at every network settings screen i can find and have been unable to re-find that "fast connection, fast computer" setting so i can dial it back and see if that fixes the issue i am hoping it won't be necessary to re-install suse in order to get to that setting again, as i've already added restricted formats and the nvidia driver (both of which took over an hour with his crippled connection) any help will be appreciated sc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help(a)opensuse.org
