[opensuse] Unable to do Online Update/Package Management.More detailed report.

First I can download the file primary.xml.gz without problem using Firefox. In Yast the proxy settings are empty(not established).The firewall I use is the suSE Firewall configured automatically on install. The exact error message is: Download(curl) error for "http://download.opensuse.org/.../primary.xml.gz" Error code unrecognized error. Error message: transfer closed with 951976 bytes remaining to read. When I close this error message appears a second: Cannot access installation media (Medium 1) Check whether the server is accessible. [opensuse] curl error-connection time out

Today I finally installing opensuse 11.1 kde 4.2 in all machines. Q. Using yast software manager to update the system very often I get a curl error and a connection time out. I retry and everything is OK. Everything is working OK but I had to be behind the screen to interact all the time with this connection time outs. I do not remember anything like that previously. [opensuse] Disappearing mouse functions

I have suddenly have had my mouse button function quit working minutes after logging in. I may not even be able to finish typing this message before it quits. The curser mover around but after it happens I can no longer click with either the left or right button. It makes web searches difficult as well to try to find an answer. I am using 11.1 32bit KDE 3.5 I also allowed a couple updates in the last day. Any pointers would be appreciated. [opensuse] update a 11.1 server

Hello, I used to use yast to configure my server automatic updates, but the last one was 10.1 :-) now with 11.1 I don't find any yast module to configure *automatic* update. [opensuse] Python error

Hi all, I know its just I need to install something, but I'm not sure what. When I give this command: python setup.py install I get this error: running install error: invalid Python installation: unable to open /usr/lib/python2.5/config/Makefile (No such file or directory) I have python 2.5.2 installed on SuSE 11.1 but I guess that I'm missing something. [opensuse] MBR and 2nd OpenSuse install

If I install a second version on a spare partition then my mbr is set to the fresh installed grub. Is there an option in the install procedure "DON"T touch the MBR" ? We are using a SLES 10 SP2 system where we installed a Mail Server according to this tutorial: http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/16264.html Everything is running fine except for the Masquerading feature. For instance the e-mail sender should have this "user(a)example.com" form but it appears as "user@mail-s. example.com". Here is now the relevant /etc/postfix/main.cf entry: ............... ............... masquerade_domains=ldap:/etc/postfix/ldapmasquerade_domains.cf ................. ldapmasquerade_domains.cf has this content: # This file was created by yast2-mail-server. Please do not edit it! server_host=localhost query_filter=(&(objectclass=suseMailDomain)(zoneName=%s) (suseMailDomainMasquerading=yes)) search_base=ou=DNS,dc=example,dc=com timeout=20 result_attribute=zoneName bind=no server_port=389 scope=sub # By** using "masquerade_domains=example.com" in the main.cf file, the sender is now as we want to see it ie. [opensuse] should we keep the commandline pipe tradition?

Hi. I haven't been using commandline extensively for some years, and when I come back to Linux, I was surprised to see GUI software being developed so fast and so well on Linux (and feel happy about it). However I wonder if current commandlin isn't as useful as was. e.g. in order to play midi music keyboard I instantly think of doing this: $ timidity < /dev/midi timidity is the player that generate sounds from midi events. /dev/midi is the device that produce such events, like /dev/ttyS0 when connected to a mouse. And I was told no, that's not the way it is. correct way is: $ timidity -AD # put to daemon mode $ aconnect 16:0 128:0 # 16:0 is another way to represent /dev/midi # while 128:0 is the virtual device that generates sound Another example: when I wanted to join multiple TIFF images into a single multi-page tiff image, I thought I could do this: $ tiffcat < page-1.tiff page-2.tiff page-3.tiff page-4.tiff > pages.tiff And I was told no. [opensuse] KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed

Hi list, - on openSuSE11.1 all of a sudden at startup of KDE4 (Version 4.2.1 (KDE 4.2.1) "release 106"), I get this errorbox: KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed No, I didn't remove/do anything....and I have no sound. And sound works just fine in that other OS, you know...also Knoppix plays sound just fine. The dialogbox then gives me the chance for managing the devices - all are grayed out, no luck here. [opensuse] No stream found to handle url dvd://1 opensuse 11.1 mplayer

I get the message "No stream found to handle url dvd://1" in a dialog when trying to play a DVD in the graphic interface of mplayer (gmplayer). I can play the DVD without problem using the command line interface mplayer. (But before it would work I had to do this: sudo chmod u+s /usr/bin/mplayer) gmplayer's preferences have the video device /dev/dvd which is symbolically linked to /dev/sr0.
