Hi Jerry and all, before downgrading to 10.3 I'd suggest to try with an older version of Samba instead... Life was good. Even the Linux machines were happy as members of that domain. My domain user account was golden everywhere. Since I installed v11.0 on that server, it will share files using Samba, but doesn't work as the PDC. Every time I run the YaST configuration for the Samba Server, everything looks good, and it always asks me again for a root password. (Can't it remember?) I can't view smb shares on the Linux machines, although they're present on the Windows machines. And I can't use SWAT to configure it, because I can't connect Firefox to localhost:901. The error message says the site appears to be valid, but can't connect. When I try to join another machine to the domain, I'm told that the authorizing user can't be found. (I'm trying to use "root" with the password I keep assigning for "root.") Hi, sorry for the late reply. I only use Thunderbird for email not for newsgroups. Because it keeps on freezing I'm now using Kmail or Evolution which seem to work just fine... Now I'm trying to choose between the two, still under KDE 3.5.9... If I remember correctly my gmail IMAP lockup also happened when downloading message bodies. I used popmail instead and forgot about the problem. Maybe we have found a bug, does your lockup happen when downloading message bodies and have you tried newsgroups? My last newsgroup problem was recent. [opensuse] a second GNOME damage after update

I already posted a problem caused by mandatory updates, perhaps in conjunction with a specific system configuration of my computer. Now I see that the control center cannot start. Altogether I am missing two executables: - gnome-control-center and - gnome-settings-daemon Thanks to search.rpmseek.com I know that these files belong to several packages. But openSUSE 10.3 provides only one of these: control-center2. Surprisingly this package is displayed as to be not installed although gnome-control-center and gnome-settings-daemon always worked until yesterday. I don't know of another openSUSE-package what contains these files. Unfortunately YaST rejects the installation of this package because it requires "libxklavier >= 3.5" for "libxklavier12-3.5-3.1.i586". In my understanding this should be a bug because no already installed package can be dependent from a new package and prevent it from being installed. Even if a new package requires a second version of an already installed package rpm should ensure that these two versions can coexist. Then I guessed that the rpm database is perhaps damaged and started an rpm --rebuilddb. Answer: Can't create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/..db.00 (even after reboot!). But other programs I have installed and removed after the error, so there cannot be a general problem wit the rpm DB! It's a nightmare. I am desperately looking for a way to install "control center2". BTW, is it possible to use rpm with rpm-files in the openSUSE repositories? Until now I used rpm only with single downloaded files. I would prefer to have access to the repositories what are also available for YaST. Need your help. Thanks. [opensuse] VNC Remote Install on 11.0 Broken

I've tried on openSUSE 11.0 to install via VNC. Simply added vnc=1 to the startup options, it detects the network via DHCP and then says "Starting VNC viewer... when Yast is finished close your VNC viewer and return to this window" I can then connect via VNC and am prompted for the password. The VNC session immediately closes and some messages are flashed on the screen too quick to read and I am taken to the blue installation menu. I can try again but the same thing happens. [opensuse] SSH and DSA public keys

Hi, On a OpenSuse 10.3 (64bit) machine I want to configure ssh to accept only public-key logins. I have it running on a 10.1 (32bit) machine, so I copied the sshd_config and the authorized_keys to the 10.3 machine. I read the man-page of the 10.3 sshd_config to see if there were differences but I didn't find any. I restarted sshd and tried to log on. It didn't work, so I made the log-level DEBUG3. I found that sshd seems to skip the DSA-keys. Only the RSA-keys are checked, and since the machine I try to login from had no RSA-key I could not login. I made a new RSA-key, and put it in authorized_keys, and then successfully logged on with this key. Am I missing something ?
