[opensuse] Bug in 11.0 - ATI drivers are mandatory dependencies for all software

List, Tonight I went to install beediff and bsc. After selecting the packages for install, the install then added the ATI Video Card drivers as mandatory dependancies and I couldn't delete their addition. I am happy with my setup and I don't want to install the ATI drivers, I want to install the beesoft utilities. How do I convince Yast to let me install just the beesoft utilities without it trying to force feed the ATI drivers? Any help would be appreciated. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Hi David, assuming you use bash, just put an "export EDITOR=/usr/bin/vi" in your .bashrc (w/o the quotes) and eventually issue a "source $HOME/.bashrc" (again, w/o quotes) to reload the settings if you don't want to logout/login again. Hello, I have a problem with opensuse updater and kde 4.1 After typing the root password, this error message appears: kdesu(6169)/kdesu (kdelibs) KDESu::KDEsuClient::command: [ /usr/src/packages/BUILD/kdelibs-4.1.0/kdesu/client.cpp : 196 ] no reply from daemon ¿what could be wrong? I have been using the KDE4.1 factory repository to keep an eye on development. Sometime in the last couple of weeks an update disabled 4.1 from running. A crappy looking gui box pops up saying something about lnusertemp cannot be found and directories may be full. Well, lnusertemp is in /opt/kde3/bin but I am trying to start 4.1. Now that 4.1 has gone gold I thought it might be fixed but most of the stuff in the repository is still marked with the little lock (i.e. should not be installed) and 4.1 will not start. 3.5 still seems to work undaunted. I'm running AMD64 bit machines. Should the factory repository still have most of the basic libraries locked? Thanks for any direction. [opensuse] Printing using cups

I have a printer using turboprint on another machine that I am sharing via cups. On my laptop, I am connected to the printer and I can print to it with no problem. The problem i have three apps that work partially with it. Open office just works partially. It does not allow me to select the various paper trays associated with the program. Firefox and evolution both do now work with the printer at all. Hi Does anyone know how to get the new kmail to send plain text messages? If I uncheck the html formatting in options, the html toolbar goes away but the message still ends up being sent as multipart. 11.0 x86-64 and 4.1.0 from factory today. tks. [opensuse] Extremely hideous mishandling of history in bash

Hi, wandering through countless distributions I'd never seen this most hideous handling of the bash history: in OpenSuse when you select a previous command with the up-arrow key, then modify it in some manner and run it this last command is forgotten. If you press once again the up-arrow key the command you see is not the last you ran, but the one before it. Is there any setting I can use to restore the only sane behaviour? [opensuse] konqueror copy to smb:// does not preserve timestamps

Hi, I use konqueror to copy files from a shared resource on one windows machine to another machine, as well as copying files from my opensuse to share on windows machine. The shares are not mapped, but accessed using smb:// The problem is, that it does not preserve the original timestamps of the files, and always puts the current time as "last modified". How can I preserve the timestemps?
