I setup kmail to use kwallet and it (kmail) no longer complains about an invalid transport and sending mail now actually works! It looks like kwallet MUST be used with kmail now. This was not required with earlier versions. One more comment. I cannot get kmail to store my outgoing POP server password in kwallet. It seems to only care about sending and not receiving. That seems odd to me. I have always preferred IBM java to Sun's. When I look in /usr/lib/jvm, I see all these symlinks within the directory and also to /etc/alternatives. How can I make IBM java the default for all these? [opensuse] Desktop Wierdness

My mother (openSUSE 10.3 32-bit 1G RAM) calls me today and says I messed with her fonts when I did an update on Sunday. (I often run the updater manually when we go over for dinner on Sundays.) I went over this evening and saw that (a) her desktop icons are all gone and (b) her fonts are wacky. For example, see the enclosed screen. On reading mail the font is large and bold. [opensuse] USB Problem

System ASUS Motherboard, P4, 4GB Memory, 2 320GB Sata drives, 2 DVD Drives, IDE. openSUSE 11.0, ( linux 2.6.25.11-0.1-pae #1 SMP 2008-07-13 20:48:28) Dual boot opensuse 11.0 and openSUSE 10.3. Yesterday I added a new drive (USB) { actually120GB IDE drive in shuttle that converts it to USB. Purpose was a drive to back my data too. The drive was recognized and I displaced and cleared old data off it. I then used the YaST partitioner to create two partitions, 75GB mount point /linuxbackup and 25GB mount point /windowsbackup. I then right clicked each icon and did a remove safely since there was no unmount option. That is how i do it with my Scandisk thumb drive. Then shutdown and rebooted,system keep going to the root login then, repair mode. kept getting message superblock bad magic.on the drive I had just removed, tried fsck as suggested by the message using backup super block. no luck fixing. Finally tried booting into 10.3 and that worked. went back to 11.0 installation --> boot loader, installed new boot loader and rebooted and system came back up. My questions are what is the correct way to shut this USB disk down so I do not have to install a new boot loader each time? Should my mount point be /media/disk instead (thats what the thumb drive does)? I know if I do not disconnect the thumb drive before shutting down, it does not boot up correctly. Any help or pointers will be appreciated. [opensuse] Bug in 11.0 - ATI drivers are mandatory dependencies for all software

List, Tonight I went to install beediff and bsc. After selecting the packages for install, the install then added the ATI Video Card drivers as mandatory dependancies and I couldn't delete their addition. I am happy with my setup and I don't want to install the ATI drivers, I want to install the beesoft utilities. How do I convince Yast to let me install just the beesoft utilities without it trying to force feed the ATI drivers? Any help would be appreciated. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Hi David, assuming you use bash, just put an "export EDITOR=/usr/bin/vi" in your .bashrc (w/o the quotes) and eventually issue a "source $HOME/.bashrc" (again, w/o quotes) to reload the settings if you don't want to logout/login again. Hello, I have a problem with opensuse updater and kde 4.1 After typing the root password, this error message appears: kdesu(6169)/kdesu (kdelibs) KDESu::KDEsuClient::command: [ /usr/src/packages/BUILD/kdelibs-4.1.0/kdesu/client.cpp : 196 ] no reply from daemon ¿what could be wrong? I have been using the KDE4.1 factory repository to keep an eye on development. Sometime in the last couple of weeks an update disabled 4.1 from running. A crappy looking gui box pops up saying something about lnusertemp cannot be found and directories may be full. Well, lnusertemp is in /opt/kde3/bin but I am trying to start 4.1. Now that 4.1 has gone gold I thought it might be fixed but most of the stuff in the repository is still marked with the little lock (i.e. should not be installed) and 4.1 will not start. 3.5 still seems to work undaunted. I'm running AMD64 bit machines. Should the factory repository still have most of the basic libraries locked? Thanks for any direction. [opensuse] Printing using cups

I have a printer using turboprint on another machine that I am sharing via cups. On my laptop, I am connected to the printer and I can print to it with no problem. The problem i have three apps that work partially with it. Open office just works partially. It does not allow me to select the various paper trays associated with the program. Firefox and evolution both do now work with the printer at all.
