Hi,
in order to fit better into the current buildservice structure the
OpenLDAP project has been moved into the newly created "network:ldap"
namespace. Additionally I took the chance to reorganize the packaging a
bit. There are different subprojects for the different release branches
of OpenLDAP.org. For Packages from the 2.4 release branch that makes:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/ldap:/OpenLDAP:/RE24/
and packages from the 2.3 release branch can be found here:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/ldap:/OpenLDAP:/RE23/
If you were using the repositories from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/OpenLDAP/
please update you configuration to one of the above as I plan to remove
the old project in a few weeks. (Rebuilds have already been disabled
for the old project).
Additionally I have plans to add other LDAP related packages (nss_ldap,
pam_ldap) to the "network:ldap" namespace as time permits.
Contributions and other feedback are of course very welcome.
Have a lot of fun...
Ralf

I'm running openSUSE 10.3. After some updates I rebooted, logged in
and noticed that my emerald theme was no longer loading. Seems as
though compiz is now having some issues with me. :-( I cannot launch

different commands I tried running (see below). Any ideas on what
broke and how to fix it?

Opensuse 11 x86 64 with kde 4. I just got 2 hp w2207h flat panel monitors and installed one for now onto an existing install. 1 thing right off the bat, sax does not list this monitor; so is there a way to get this monitor "noticed" by sax, or a monitor i should select in sax. right now it is on nec lcd1525v.

Hi, I installed openSUSE 11.0 with all the development tools. Also, I installed Vmware Workstation 6.0.4 that worked fine on openSUSE 10.3 but when I run vmware-config.pl and compile vmware modules for my kernel I get the following message:
Your kernel was built with "gcc" version "4.3.1", while you are trying to use
"/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.3". This configuration is not recommended and VMware
Workstation may crash if you'll continue. Please try to use exactly same
compiler as one used for building your kernel. Do you want to go with compiler
"/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.3" anyway? [no]
I looked at the repositories and there is no version 4.3.1 of gcc, so I can't compile the modules and run vmware (I get an error later). I am using kernel-default, but same happens with kernel-pae.
Anynone has the same problem? How can I solve it?
Cheers,
Raúl

Don't know about the codecs, but k3b for kde4 is still in alpha, so expect
things to be broken. If you're happy being an alpha-tester, then have a look
in bugs.kde.org to see if it's a known bug or something unique, but don't be
too surprised if Seb isn't interested in bug reports until he goes beta.

Hello listmates,
I am looking for a solution to stream audio (mp3) and video (mostly mpg)
from my Apache webserver. I have seen several solutions out there on the
web, but before I implement something, I would like to ask the openSUSE
crowd what they like to use and why.
I am looking for several things:
1) Easy to place new things on the server to stream
So not "run foo.sh to squelch the gizmo, than change permissions on the
whatchamacallit to flurb the noodles", then manually edit bar.conf to
list all the new files on the server, but don't forget the semicolon on
line 98792345, otherwise people will get an error 900 'noodles
misaligned'. Non-Linux people will have to be able to place things on
the server.
2) Flexible
It shouldn't care about bitrates, hertz, pixels, fps, the hole in the
ozone layer and whatnot.
3) Secure
Speaks for itself
4) Careful with bandwidth
Speaks for itself
5) Scalable
Be able to stream 10, 100 or 1000 files (not simultaneously) and still
be easy to maintain.
I'm very curious to hear your thoughts on this matter.
Thanks in advance for your ideas,
Joop

How to properly use crypttab in openSUSE?
I have openSUSE 11 installed on three encrypted partitions: /, swap
and /home, so I have to type password for every one of them during boot.
I would like to use crypttab to automatically mount /home (automounting
swap seems to be more complicated, I'm leaving it for later).
I have created the key file
dd if=/dev/urandom of=/etc/key-home bs=1024 count=4
set the rights for it
chmod 0400 /etc/key-home
added it to LUKS
cryptsetup luksAddKey /dev/sda8 /etc/key-home
I also checked if /dev/sda8 can be decrypted using the key file. No
problem here.
I have created /etc/crypttab with only one entry
home /dev/sda8 /etc/key-home luks
appropriate entry in /etc/fstab was already in place
/dev/mapper/home /home ext3 acl,user_xattr,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1
1 2
as the last thing, I changed the menu entry in /boot/grub/menu.lst from
title openSUSE 11.0 - 2.6.25.9-0.2
root (hd0,4)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.25.9-0.2-default root=/dev/mapper/root
luks_root=/dev/sda7 luks_swap=/dev/sda6 luks_home=/dev/sda8 luks="root
swap home" resume=/dev/mapper/swap splash=silent showopts vga=0x317
initrd /initrd-2.6.25.9-0.2-default
to
title openSUSE 11.0 auto? - 2.6.25.9-0.2
root (hd0,4)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.25.9-0.2-default root=/dev/mapper/root
luks_root=/dev/sda7 luks_swap=/dev/sda6 luks="root swap"
resume=/dev/mapper/swap splash=silent showopts vga=0x317
initrd /initrd-2.6.25.9-0.2-default
and rebooted.
Unfortunately the partition was gone -- not even listed in /dev/mapper.
In /var/log/boot.omsg I found
failedActivating crypto devices using /etc/crypttab ...
unused ...unused
I rebooted again and used the original entry for /boot/menu.lst. It
worked, but I was asked for password three times, so no progress here.
How to set opensuse up to work with crypttab?

Hello,
I noticed that libperl.a (used to be part of the perl package in older
opensuse releases) is no longer available.
Was this library moved to a different package?
Maybe it is possible to recreate it from the still existing libperl.so?
Any hints?
