[opensuse] Intel ipw2100.

The Intel wifi ipw2100 driver is supposed to work fine with 11.0.........but it WON'T connect when an access point is using WPA. Does anyone know if this has been reported....I can't find anything on it. 'Have an idea the driver is broken.........again. [opensuse] thinpad tpctl opensuse 11

Any tips in how to setup tpctl so I can control the hotkeys in a thinpad x40 and x61 I use to run tpb under 10.3 but it doesnot seems to be available any more. I used yast and I load the kernel modules. There is a couple of kernel modules one tpctl-kmp-pae and the other tpctl-kmp-default. I installed the defaut only. What's the difference among them? [opensuse] Are there ANY compelling reasons to upgrade to 11.0?

I'm normally all over a new distro by now but I just got my T61p laptop working properly with Suse 10.3 (video drivers for nvidia that work with suspend resume were hard to find). I've trolled through the enhancements etc and just can't find any compelling reason to think that laptop support has improved in 11.0. Indeed there seem to be lots of people complaining about knetworkmanager, and no one raves about its bluetooth support. These are not the sort of things you can test in a VM... so what say you? [opensuse] Sound problems as user on OpenSuse 11 VM

My son liked some of the games I have on suse. So I installed OpenSuse 11 in a VM using VMWare's free server. I then put VMWare Player 2.x on his machine. I guess OpenSuse 11 recognizes VMWare, because it automatically installed open-vm-tools. Everything is working well so far except sound. I can go to the Devices/Sound either as root or as the user account and can play test sounds just fine, but I get no sound in any games. I installed vlc and was able to play an mp3 fine as a normal user. If I su to root and play games sound works. Any ideas? [opensuse] Sleep under Gnome on SuSE 11.0

Hi I wonder if anyone has an answer to this. If I put my desktop PC to sleep as root from the console using "s2ram -f -m", my PC sleeps and resumes perfectly. But if I try to put my PC to sleep via gnome-power-manager or the sleep button in the main Gnome logout box, sleep fails: the logs show the PC tries to sleep but then instantly resumes. I've set appropriate parameters in gnome-power-manager's preferences, also reachable via the screen-saver, but no luck. A permissions problem? A foobared command line inside Gnome which the Gnome buttons fire off? A missing package? Or ... [opensuse] Where's my addressbook?

I originally posted this in opensuse-kde, but it's very quiet over there, and there seems to be a lot of discussion about KDE4 going on here, so... I've started playing with KDE4, and I've managed to get Kmail4 to see my Mailboxes. How do I find my KDE3 list of Contacts? How do I load my KDE3 calendar? I don't want to have to recreate all this stuff. [opensuse] usb gprs modem

Does anyone have experience with any brand usb gprs modems with opensuse? Other laptop died that had a pcmcia slot which my gprs card worked fine in. This laptop has no express or pcmcia slots. [opensuse] Is there a way to read data from a hdd, with a worm eaten bootsector?

Hi, Unfortunately my networkdrive became unaccessible, due to some worm, that has eaten parts of the bootsector. This drive contains my whole movie and music DB, all my photoos and apps that i wanted to keep. I know that the real data is unaffected, but do not know how to get it off that drive, and onto some other media, like DL-DVD's.. Does anyone have a clue? For information: Yes, it was used in a network, where there are also windows PC's and laptops, it had a samba server, and an ftp server. And no, a virus scanner could not access the drive anymore.. I noticed some strange signs, that have replaced the normal letters, and in a few restarts, no access was possible anymore. iirc, there is a way of reading the disk, passing by the bootsector in some way, but i don't remember the routine.... It cann't be mounted anymore, i used an enclosure directly on the drive: ide to usb, but it cann't be recognised anymore.. If somebody knows a way to get to the data, i would be very pleased to hear it. It is some 210GB, on a 250GB drive. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (Now or never...) On having similar problems, all printers configured in Yast were removed and left as un-configured before using cups.
