[opensuse] Printing questions

Hello, I just installed a new printer. It has 4 trays. On my desktop PC (Suse 10.0) I can't find where I can set the default tray. Any help ? I also looked on my laptop (suse 10.3), and even there I can't find where to configure my printers. With configuring my printers I mean things like a default tray (some applications have no choice for trays), duplex printing, paper types. I also moved an older printer to another location, and connected it to a printer-server device. On the server (suse 9.3) I needed to install the printer again, because you can't modify the connection to "network" with Yast. Doing that I think I lost the default tray for that printer and here again I can't change it. In Yast I tried to change the media source, but it keeps going back to tray 1 which I don't want. I also tried cups (localhost:631) with the same result. Where does Suse keeps it's printer configurations ? On my desktop PC I looked in /etc/cups but I don't see anything that looks like it. I looked in printers.conf, cupsd.conf, client.conf, ppd/*.ppd, interfaces is empty... FWIW : old printer : HP LJ 4050 (parallel, networked via print-server device), new printer : HP LJ 4250 (networked). [opensuse] Bounced mail from posts to this list

Hi all, Overnight I received 4 bounced mail messages saying email was delayed (specifically, delivery status notification delay). I thought it was spam, but they actually contain messages of 4 posts I made to the list yesterday. Why would mail sent to this list bounce back to my email address? They are from postmaster(a)bcilabs.org, referencing address opensuse(a)bcilabs.org I searched the list archives and find no references to bcilabs. [opensuse] where's novell? (bit of a rant)

Okay, I went online today and ordered three new laptops for work. (One to replace my aging 1-year-old laptop.) I wanted high-end 64-bit desktop replacements. I ordered Dell, knowing that they pre-install Linux on the laptops with no Wintendo tax. I ordered a Dell M6300 64-bit system with 8G RAM and a pretty big hard drive. The intention is to run it with Virtual box and virtualize win2008, xp and openSUSE. My question - why is SLES not an option on these? Your 3D is enabled regardless of what sax2 says. Remember, you are running a proprietary driver and sax2 can only know so much. The driver and card are often displayed wrong. To create the additional mode, whatever it is, you will need to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and manually add it to the modes section. Example: Section "Modes" Identifier "Modes[0]" Modeline "1280x1024" 165.29 1280 1376 1512 1744 1024 1025 1028 1077 To create the modeline use: "gtf width height frequency". So for 1440x900 as 60Hz, you would use: 02:20 Rankin-P35a~/Pictures/2008> gtf 1440 900 60 # 1440x900 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 55.92 kHz; pclk: 106.47 MHz Modeline "1440x900_60.00" 106.47 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 901 904 932 -HSync +Vsync Just past the modeline in your xorg.conf. Next you will need to add a corresponding screen to the "Screens" section of your xorg.conf. Currently you have: Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" Just make it: Modes "1440x900" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" Do this for each of the color depths. That is my preliminary thoughts for what you should try next. Below is additional information and my comments from looking through your log file. You will need to make the modifications suggested below if you intend to utilize AIGLX and compiz. However, to address the resolution problem, I would start with what is discussed above. This won't affect resolution, but it is just curious. Next, you are not getting AIGLX to load. While this shouldn't prevent the proper resolution, you may want to double check the xorg.conf file. I'd expect to see some syslog messages about lost ticks etc. Just as a sanity check, this wouldn't happen to be a vmware instance would it? In that case, ntp problems are a known fact. [opensuse] Upgrade 32 bit to 64 bit

I am going to be forced to install OpenSuSE 10.3 32 bit in a couple of locations, because a key application won't work well under 64 bit. [opensuse] Need suggestions on email server setup

I am wanting to set up an email server, this is my first ever attempt, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on programs to use, ways to set it up. I have the SUSE Linux Bible for SUSE 9.1, bought it from a local bookstore when I first started Linux, and it talks about Postix, Qpopper, and Cyrus but I was wondering if there are better programs now then there was back when that book was written. [opensuse] Playing a wav file?

I have some multi-media software installed, but I just tried to play a wav file from our PBX. RealPlayer launched but told me it could not play this type of file. What do I need to install / setup to do this?
