[opensuse] Installation from ISO

Hi, I'm somewhat a newbie to Linux. (Again) I tried to follow http://en.opensuse.org/Installation_using_images (The reason is that I could not burn the images, something allways goes wrong.) Anyway, installtion from the image does not work. I could read the iso and get all packages. Immediatly after setting up Yast and agreeing to all licences the installation starts and stops with Failed to mount /dev/sda6 on /mnt/var/temp/ap0x00001 Mounting media failed (mount: /dev/sda6 already mounted or /mnt/var/temp/ap0x0001 busy) I could not skip this error message. /dev/sda6 is the location of the image. So it might be that the installtion system tries to again mount, what it already has mounted. (But IIRC /dev/sda6 was not set up to be mounted as /windows/something in the expert mode partition setup.) I also tried some other similar things with the iso image unpacked and then installing with harddrive as source, but it stops at the same time. Any ideas? Or is the iso image installation simply broken and I have to try harder for some more burning? [opensuse] Inoperative Intel 945G open GL

Hi, I'm trying to get 3D support with Intel 945G onboard graphics. [opensuse] encrypted - boot: Failed to open

Hi, During boot an encrypted partition should be mounted using a using a key-file. I get: error on stat() /dev/mapper/cr_sdb2: No such file or directory Failed to open the device 'dev/mapper/cr_sdb2': no such file or directory fsck.reiserfs dev/mapper/cr_sdb2 failed (status 0x8). Run manually! I have following partitions: /dev/sda2 /boot (normal partition) /dev/sda3 / (encrypted partition, password to enter during boot) /dev/sdb1 swap (encrypted, password in /etc/crypt-swap.key) /dev/sdb2 /mnt/test (encrypted, password in /etc/crypt-test.key) without cr_sdb2 in fstab it boots perfect now, swap is encrypted and on. with cr_sdb2 in fstab I get the above shown messages. /etc/crypttab: cr_sdb1 /dev/disk/by-id/id_of_the_disk /etc/crypt-swap.key swap cr_sdb2 /dev/disk/by-id/id_of_the_disk /etc/crypt-test.key luks in /etc/fstab I added /dev/mapper/cr_sdb2 /mnt/test reiserfs acl,usr_xattr 1 2 After booting (cr_sdb2-line in fstab commented out) I can mount sdb2 with mount /mnt/test /dev/mapper/cr_sdb2 without typing a password. Why can't it open it at boot? Any help possible? If we want to build the best distro, having digest of what other do compared to what we do can be helpful. [opensuse] NFS Problem

Did Novell drop another ball with the ad campaign? Starting to see two guys and a gal, no mention of linux, and the girl is depicted as a temper-mental brat...a MAC commercial. A Google search of "linux" hits Novell at the bottom of the second page, and open-suse at the bottom of the sixth page. I would imagine that most "tire kickers" who call Dell for an order probably seldom mention Novell or open-suse. I doubt it is a case of Dell "pushing" Ubuntu. I swapped connections on the video card... and ran sax2 (just to see what it would do). This reset everything back to use the nv driver and a single desktop. Ok, then ran nvidia-xconfig... restarted X. Now I had the LCD displaying at 1680x1050. I didn't even know it could do that resolution. Teh TFT (which is supposed to run at 1680x1050) would only run at 1600x1200... and nvidia-settings wouldn't allow the correct resolution. After much tinkering and swapping cables back and forth I narrowed it down... it is ALL related to the HorizSync and VertRefresh values. If I set the values for the LCD to match those of my TFT, then I can set the LCD to display most resolutions from 320x200 all the way up to 1680x1050 (a few are out of range, but most display). I have set the LCD to 1024x768 (the documented top resolution for the LCD). and it is working at that resolution now... Of course the solution isn't 100% yet... but it's a start (and a painful path to get there). Next step... how do you find out what the correct frequency ranges are for a Toshiba 32WL56P LCD Television, and since it actually will display in 1680x1050, will it damage it to use that resolution (since the documentation with the TV states 1024x768)? One other minor issue... when I launch MythTV on that screen, it automatically switches back to 640x480 resolution... and I cannot find a way to stop it from doing that.
