[opensuse] Setting up new email server on 10.3

Hi all, I'm getting around to setting up my email server on opensuse 10.3 to migrate from an older setup. Its a clean 10.3 install. I've used postfix-cyrus imap-amavis-spamassassin-sieve in the past and like that setup. I'd like to have email users separate from local users. At present I only have one local user, but may have a few family members use this machine with their own logins at some point. I plan to have approx 10 to 20 email users, so this is no big install, just my home email server. Looking at yast to set up the MTA, it offers to set postfix up to auth against an LDAP server and offers to set up that as a local LDAP. That sounds interesting, but I don't need anything else to use LDAP except posftix and imap. Is this the best way to accomplish what I want, or is using another method of authing my email users better, and what would that be? [opensuse] two issues with with T61p/opensuse 10.3

Hi, I installed on my new T61p openSuse 10.3. Not exactly "out of the box" but it works. 1. When wired I can get connected to internet, but when tried wireless - I can't. I can see all networks around my house and when tried to connect mine - can't? card is configured (Intel Lenovo Thikpad Card wlan-wlan0) I know SLED works fine on T61p but WiFi, that's why I tried openSuse 10.3 I use KNetwork Manager. on forums.suselinuxsupport.de, opensuse.us, suseforums.net and couple others I saw many people have the same problem. But can't see any fix? any help appreciated. 2. When connect USB drive get error message: "hal-storage-removable no <(action, result)" On google I found it's (was?) a bug. Fixs I don't understand. [opensuse] grsync backup to fat32 problem

I am trying to copy the contents of an ext3 partition to an external usb drive with a fat32 partition. The first copy copied most files, but there were files with special characters in their name which failed to copy. I used krename to change the file names on the ext2 partition but that did not change the file names. So i renamed them by hand. Now i used grsync to update the fat32 partition. I get the following error message: "rsync: opendir "/disk2/lost+found" failed: Permission denied (13) rsync error: some files could not be transferred (code 23) at main.c(977) [sender=2.6.9]" And the following rsync output: "*** Launching RSYNC command: rsync -r -t -x -v --progress --delete --size-only -u --modify-window=1 /disk2/ /media/Elements/ building file list ... 1400 files... 6750 files to consider IO error encountered -- skipping file deletion rsync error: some files could not be transferred (code 23) at main.c(977) [sender=2.6.9] sent 278140 bytes received 20 bytes 556320.00 bytes/sec total size is 275813232309 speedup is 991563.25" the ext3 partition disk2 now contains 6277 files, 472 subfolders 256.9 GB (275 815 358 133) the fat32 partition 6282 files, 472 subfolders 256.9GB (275 837 017 758) It looks like the files with the special characters in their name were renamed as hidden files and now can not be deleted ? .eBook - Psychologie, Psychiatrie - Auszug [Der Psychotherapeut - Springer Verlag 2000] - Die Behandlung Von Borderline-Persnlichkeitsstrungen.pdf.1x10Rv But even after removing the trailing dot, the file is now 3 times on fat32: eBook - Psychologie, Psychiatrie - Auszug [Der Psychotherapeut - Springer Verlag 2000] - Die Behandlung Von Borderline-Persnlichkeitsstrungen.pdf eBook - Psychologie, Psychiatrie - Auszug [Der Psychotherapeut - Springer Verlag 2000] - Die Behandlung Von Borderline-Persoenlichkeitsstoerungen.pdf Even when unchecking "windows compatibility" in grsync, i get: "rsync error: some files could not be transferred (code 23) at main.c(977) [sender=2.6.9]" I did fsck -p for /dev/disk2: no errors. [opensuse] GUI PDF Editing

Is there any PDF tools in Linux that I can use to combine PDF files into one document? I have searched and all I can find are command line tools such as ghostscript. I'd like something like Acrobat that allows one to insert a document into an existing document then rearrange the pages. [opensuse] Library policy

The library policy (splitting libs) is generally a good idea but the recent supersplitup is just stupid. Now samba has no less than three packages... libtalloc1, libtdb0, libwbclient0, libsmbclient0, and that for something that's barely 100kb in size. [opensuse] YAST - Pet Peave - Why refresh before displaying the list of Community Repositories

Listmates, I was helping on another post and I simply needed to take a look at what the names in "Community Repositories" were. Why in the heck does Yast have to refresh all the GD repositories on my box just to display the list of repositories available? Refresh after I have selected a repository, not just to display a list of the ones available. It wasn't until after 10 minutes of refreshes, that I was to see the list of community repositories. (Yes, I know I can just look at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/ , but I wanted to make sure I had the nomenclature right so that the information I provided matched what would be seen in Yast, Community Repositories. [opensuse] TV Capture

Hi, I am writing to ask for information and recommendations for shifting one of my major computer tasks from WinXP to Opensuse. I use an ATI TV Wonder Pro capture card to capture video input from old videos which I play on a Video Player, to my hard drive. I use Nero to capture the video, and then convert it so that I can write the file to DVD. I have a number of older scientific videos which I can't easily replace, so I am trying to convert them one by one to dvd. Everything works ok on Windows, but I am trying to learn to do the same task on Suse. I have spent a bit of time during the last year trying to find out how, with negative results. I was able to watch the video input on the computer when I ran 10.2, but now can't get that to work on 10.3. In any event I couldn't find how to save the video to hard drive. I found a few apps might let me watch and save the video on the computer, but haven't been able to get them to work. Most won't pick up the tv input from the capture card, others won't compile, others just don't work. So if you have recommendations that would help me to accomplish my goal I would appreciate it. [opensuse] Windows vs. Suse OO docuent file size

Hi, I hope that this is the proper venue to ask this question, otherwise I will get 30 or so replys telling me otherwise. I produce a monthly newsletter for an organization to which I belong. I have been using MS Word to do it, but I really would prefer to produce it in Open Office on Suse. This month I tried to produce it in Open Office and was able to do it, and I thought that was grand. Goodbye WinXP, hello Suse! My file size in Word was about 4400kb, and OO file size was 396kb for the same document saved in opendocument format. I have to convert the files to PDF files for two reasons, the first is that we don't want the document to be easily altered once it is sent out. The second, and most important from a practical aspect is that the file size has to be small enough to be downloaded by members who are on dialup. The file size of the Word/PDF conversion is 97kb, and the OO/PDF conversion is 402kb. I use a personal limit of 300kb for document size when I send out the newsletter, otherwise it takes too long for the dialup users to download the document. I would like to know if there is a way to get around this. I tried to zip the file and the resultant OO pdf file was 397kb. I don't need to zip the XP/pdf, it is small enough already. This is the main reason that I still use windows, so if anyone has an answer for me I would certainly find it to be welcome news. Hi, In a few days, I'll be upgrading my video card from an nVidia 7300 to an nVidia 8600. Is there anything I need to do before and / or after replacing the card?
