[opensuse] cups and font size

Hello SuSE people How do I get cups to print in smaller/larger font sizes? I want to print it the way it is seen on the screen. Some apps like kmail you can control from within the app. Kate and Open Office you cannot so there must be a way of cups controlling it. Searched Google, went to cups web page. Hi ! I have just upgraded 10.3 stock kernel kernel-default-2.6.22.5-31 to ---> kernel-bigsmp-2.6.22.17-0.1 and immediately run into problem. connecting USB2 hard drive results and error message: hal-storage-mount-removable no <-- (action, result) Hard drive is HFS+ formatted, worked perfectly before kernel upgrade, loading file system drivers (modprobe hfsplus) do not solves this problem. Listmates, On my laptop, I have an ENE Technology Inc CB-710 Card Reader that I cannot get to work. I have googled a little without much success. I have found kai's TI controller posts and responses, but all reference experimental patches. [opensuse] Novell client install, now K-Menu does not work

Hello all! I use 103. with kde3 and compiz fusion. I have followed http://www.novell.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId… to get the ncl installed and working. However, now that it is installed and working, k-menu (start button on the other os) does not work. When i click on it, nothing is shown, no apps, no favs, nothing. Also, konqueror is not working;no internet for knoqueror and no sysinfo:/. Hello: I have openSUSE 10.3 with kde 3.5.7 "release 72.4" and openoffice 2.3 (OpenOffice_org-2.3.0.1.2-10.3). Whenever I open a text document and want it to print out the paper size is set to 'letter' in file->print->properties dialog. How can I change it to keep A4 as default? [opensuse] system seems hacked...

I have just seen something odd on a principal server (suse 10.0) in our DMZ. At first, I saw a user running ftp_scan on a zillion ports. Then I saw a different user running ssh_scan. Me thinks, this is not right. So, I started by changing passwords for all, and rebooting. Then I notice on the freshly booted system: root 4137 1 0 14:16 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/sshd -o PidFile=/var/run/sshd.init.pid jan 4755 1 0 14:17 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/sshd netstat tells me tcp 0 0 :::22 :::* LISTEN 4137/sshd udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:32775 0.0.0.0:* 4755/sshd So this unexpected sshd has udp port 32775 open. How odd. User jan should not be running anything, let alone sshd. If I kill it. it comes back. I checked the /usr/sbin/sshd and it has a correct checksum compared to an internal machine. So then I looked in inittab and the rc scripts (process 1 is init) to see if anything there looks odd. I do not see anything the gives me a clue as to why this is running. Of course the rc scripts are harder to check as they run programs that run programs, etc. I did a check to see what is different from the installed RPMs. Nothing looked odd. I had a look at http://suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=31358 which seems to be describing the same thing. Except that in my case, the odd sshd is still running after the reboot. Listmates: If you get usb errors in virtualbox, here is how to fix them in 10.3: To enable usb support for Virtualbox on openSuSE 10.3, you simply need to modify fstab to load usbfs under the vboxuser gid with a device mode (permissions) of 0644. It is a two step process: (1) locate the vboxuser gid, either using Yast->Group Management, or simply: Rankin-P35a~> grep vboxuser /etc/group vboxusers:x:113:david The vboxuser gid is "113", yours will vary of course (2) As root, edit /etc/fstab and set the gid and mode for usbfs as follows: usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs mode=0664,gid=113 0 0 That's it, reboot or source fstab in your favorite way and usb will now work flawlessly with Virtualbox. [opensuse] Extensive disk i/o at startup (10.3)(rephrased posting)

Hi list, _ on my SuSE10.3 plain vanilla, there is heavy disk i/o at startup. So much that it renders my PC nearly unuseable. This goes on for like 10 minutes. Then goes away, all is good. - initially I thought it was Kmail doing something...may still be. A "ps auxw" gives me 50+ lines with vk 3725 0.0 0.2 25428 4756 ? S 09:06 0:00 kio_file [kdeinit] file /tmp/ksocket-vk/klaunchermnooIa.slave-s I did remove beagle/kerry the other day, using the advise given by David C. Rankin of this list. This worked (I think) very well. So I take it, it's got nothing to do with that? Any hints?
