[opensuse] Novell client install, now K-Menu does not work
Hello all! I use 103. with kde3 and compiz fusion. I have followed http://www.novell.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=tip-19968html&sliceId=&dialogID=57508452&stateId=0%200%2057510689 to get the ncl installed and working. However, now that it is installed and working, k-menu (start button on the other os) does not work. When i click on it, nothing is shown, no apps, no favs, nothing. Also, konqueror is not working;no internet for knoqueror and no sysinfo:/. Can someone help me fix this? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Is there no Novell Client for 10.3 that was made for 10.3? Novell have always been a bit odd about this. Our company has a site license for all Novell products. We are > 6000 employees. I am one of the few Linux/openSUSE users. Still, I am unable to have a reliable Novell Client login from Linux. Very odd in that it is effectively a 100% Novell setup I want to get working. I agree, Novell has been odd about the NCL (i have been thinking that maybe people are doing what the client does some other way). But, i did get mine to work....I had to disable compiz and now everything works. I do want to be able to use compiz and the novell client. Someone, please tell me this is possible and how. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

OK, so when i try to run compiz, i get: compiz: Trying '/usr/$LIB/libIndirectGL.so.1' compiz (core) - Fatal: No composite extension * Reloading compiz ... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp compiz: Trying '/usr/$LIB/libIndirectGL.so.1' compiz (core) - Fatal: No composite extension I can enable xgl without any errors but when running compiz-manager & i get: compiz-manager & [3] 6363 ELECTRICHENDRIX\carnold@Izabella:~> Checking for Xgl: not present. OK, so when i try to run compiz, i get: compiz: Trying '/usr/$LIB/libIndirectGL.so.1' compiz (core) - Fatal: No composite extension * Reloading compiz ... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp compiz: Trying '/usr/$LIB/libIndirectGL.so.1' compiz (core) - Fatal: No composite extension
Odd but true: delete /usr/$LIB/libIndirectGL.so.1. $LIB is either lib (on my system) or lib64? Then compiz will start. The mystery I have is why this file (a link) keeps coming back after reboots. Some entity want to keep remaking this link. This solves the issue above. I do not know about the issue below. Maybe they follow after the error above? Please ignore this rant: I suspect it is a problem because I have some incorrect mixture of Xgl and the nvidia driver. The descriptions I have seen thus far of the interaction between the two leave me less than informed. Developers have spent a zillion hours getting all this to work, but have dropped the ball in describing the great thing they have done in language understood by the great unwashed masses. Too many 2 or 3 letter abbreviations are used that assume one spends time working with X graphics.
I can enable xgl without any errors but when running compiz-manager & i get: compiz-manager & [3] 6363 ELECTRICHENDRIX\carnold@Izabella:~> Checking for Xgl: not present. Checking for Composite extension: not present. aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity Window manager warning: Failed to load theme "Gilouche": Failed to find a valid file for theme Gilouche
and when running compiz --replace ccp & i get: [4] 6412 ELECTRICHENDRIX\carnold@Izabella:~> compiz: Trying '/usr/$LIB/libIndirectGL.so.1' compiz (core) - Fatal: No composite extension
and when running fusion-icon & i get: [4] 6419 ELECTRICHENDRIX\carnold@Izabella:~> * Detected Session: kde * Searching for installed applications... * NVIDIA on Xorg detected, exporting: __GL_YIELD=NOTHING * Using the GTK Interface * Starting Compiz ... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp compiz: Trying '/usr/$LIB/libIndirectGL.so.1' compiz (core) - Fatal: No composite extension
So how do i get novell client and compiz to play nicely with each other?

For me it is /usr/lib. But i renamed the libIndirectGL.so.1 file and restarted the system and receive a white screen when logging in as user and root. It appeared both the compiz and novell client daemon started b/c when i reboot the system from the white screen, there are 0 "failed" messages from the novfs shutting down. After restarting the system, did you check to see if the file was back? I have this happen. I have also installed fusion-icon so I can easily restart compiz or kwin without needing to log in or out. Do you have the Novell client in the system tray or what is calls a "Float window"? This is settable in the User Preferences->Appearance of the Novell client. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O. e-mails are archived somewhere. I always have to look around a bit. I suggested making the NCL a Floating Window instead of a Tray ICON. It is set in the NCL user preferences menu. In addition, how about if you do not have the NCL start automatically, and then add it to the tray? That is, is it a startup issue, or a general compatibility issue?

Not sure about this one as i did not see how to make it a floating window. However, see below

I did turn off the tray app and now it does not NCL does not start at linux start. I then renamed libindirectGL.so.1 and enabled compiz but got a white screen again. I wonder about compiz plugins? So NCL seems not to have been the problem? I have this (which should be up-to-date as of this morning): compizconfig-settings-manager-0.6.9_git071204-4.4 compiz-manager-0.0.1_git080201-1.10 libcompizconfig-0.6.9_git080208-1.6 compiz-kde-0.7.0-5.8 compiz-emerald-themes-0.6.0-1.1 libcompizconfig-backend-gconf-0.6.9_git071204-1.11 python-compizconfig-0.6.9_git080208-1.5 compiz-fusion-kde-0.6.2-3.42 compiz-emerald-0.6.9_git080208-1.6 libcompizconfig-backend-kconfig-0.6.9_git080208-1.4 compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.5.2_git070824-22 compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported-0.6.9_git080208-1.5 compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.6.9_git080208-1.6 compiz-0.7.0-5.8 fusion-icon-0.0.1_080201-2.11 If mine is up-to-date, why do you have newer things for some things. like your compiz-fusion-plugins-extra is newer, while your compiz is older? My repositories are: /repositories/X11:/XGL/openSUSE_10.3/ /repositories/X11:/XGL/SUSE_Factory/ Do you have some place else? Or maybe mine is odd? But I have no trouble other than the continual reappearance of libIndirectGL. But that is minor in that I know how to deal with it.

I also get that conflict. So I do not install the extras. Which is probably why mine is older than yours if you select to install it anyway. More odd is that your compiz is older.
