[opensuse] New user to Opensuse - is 8600GT supported by v10.3?

Hi everybody, I was an user of Ubuntu (yes, was!). After using opensuse 10.3 BETA for few days I've decided to shift to Opensuse. It's simply brilliant and too professional. I'm from India. And right now (23:00 IST), I've started downloading the iso-image for Gnome CD. It'll take some time to complete, approx 7-8 hrs (the whole night, Internet is too slow here and fat bandwidth costs much - but that's a different story). All I want to know, that I've Geforce 8600GT graphics card. In BETA CD, it was detected properly but I couldn't use 3D acceleration. Can anybody tell me how to get 3D acceleration? [opensuse] OpenSUSE 10.3 Alert!

Hi all, I got the DVD early this morning as a downloaded ISO. The old 10.2 was a little quirky, and I kept it afloat just till today, and could hardly wait to do a new install with 10.3. Well, the first impressions are pleasing. It is quicker in installation, package selection verification is fast now, no errors with any packages installed (I install everything except Laptop). My /home is usually another physical hard drive, which I then mount after the installation of the new system. Everything, all programs I used in 10.2 and were open under the last 10.2 session just popped up as it was before I closed it down. All program setups like Evolution was there as before when the new /home was mapped in fstab. Evolution used to be a pain with updates, but now it is faster and more responsive. Great!! This has been the fastest upgrade I have ever had. The online Update has now got "Community Repositories". It is similar to convienientSUSE (http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=43378), for all NON-OSS, DVD media playing and codecs. So far, an alert and snappy system. [opensuse] Upgrade method

I'm hoping to do my first upgrade of a Suse system - from 10.2 to 10.3 - and I'm wondering what is the best or recommended method for doing this? I assume the 2 choices are: -Use Yast to upgrade the live system by changing the Installation Source -Boot from the install CD/DVD, run the install program and choose the Upgrade Existing System option (I guess it asks with something like that at some point?). Or is the recommended way to back up your system, install the new version & all your apps from scratch and then restore your data? [opensuse] Rsync not able to transfer over jumbo frames?

Hello, I have 2 network cards on my 2 of my computers that I am trying to transfer data on. The second network cards are specifically for transferring files between the two so I enabled jumble frames by setting the mtu to 9000. I seem to be able to connect between the two via ssh and other methods using this setting so I thought everything was working right until I tried rsync. I used the following command and got the error below: # rsync -auv -e 'ssh' root@192.168.30.20:/srv/data /srv/data Password: receiving file list ... Read from remote host 192.168.30.20: Connection reset by peer rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (8 bytes received so far) [receiver] rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at io.c(459) [receiver=2.6.8] I'm using rsync 2.6.8 on both ends and never had this problem before until I changed the mtu. Anyone know of a way to fix this or does rsync not work with jumbo frames? [opensuse] Few modern hardware issues

Just installled 10.3 (AMD64) and managed to overcome 1st Nvidia X server problem (using yast). I thought to ask some questions before trying things (as my last generation hardware experience since pentium 4 is only a week old). Is OpenSuse 10.3 is SATA hot-pluggable? Can I install SATA DVDRW instead of an IDE drive without any issues? Can I run desktop effects with Geforce 7200 GS? (not in XGL's DB) How is Nvidia SLI on OpenSuse? (just to know for the future) The AMD64 version seems to be really CPU aggressive, in fact it uses the CPU so intensively until the a total freeze of the computer (never used that small reset button until now). All these freezes were during multitasking and yast software installation, maybe a bug. Also got very HEAVY memory leak on firefox (800MB of RAM) when doing NOTHING. [opensuse] RaLink Based Wireless card under 10.3

Good morning all. I have a "home brew" machine that has a on-board Realtek NIC (disabled), a P4 3.2 GHz process, nVidia Le-6200 PCI card, 2 G of ram, and I added a RT61-based wireless PCI nic. 10.3 can see the card, assigns it to wlan0 and I can set all the parameters (IP, WEP, ESSID, etc) and iwconfig show them all to be correct. However, I cannot get onto the internet nor the local homenet. The card can ping itself, but nothing else on the network. I found a firmware for it and it was installed to /lib/firmware, but no joy. I tried ndiswrapper, but no joy. Has anyone got a working RT61 under 10.3 and if so, could you offer me some help. No, unfortunately I didn't overcome the problem. I have a laptop and I couldn't manage to use the dual monitor either (but that is possibly because I don't know how to set it up).
