[opensuse] on going battle

hey all, ok i've installed 10.3 hoping that my battle with my delta 66 sound card would go away. It didn't. the saga. fresh out of the box suse seen both cards my mac tumbler snd-powermac and my delta 66 snd-ice1712. it configured the tumbler and said it configured the delta 66 however the module snd-ice1712 didn't load and a mobprobe says it doesn't exist. This was the same thing that happened in 10.2. So i compiled alsa with ice1712 and then lost my tumbler module. So i recompiled the kernel to load both modules and that worked however i only got noise out of the delta 66. A grinding terrible noise. Although alsa says its fully supported. Now once or twice on reboots it would work fine but then go out again when i switched it to default card. this has been a real headache. Its a nice card and necessary for recording with my mac. [opensuse] 10.3 and mixer

Hey all, i'm digging the release. I like about all that I see, great job !! I have tried every distro for ppc and suse out shines them all. I loved it on my intel I love it on my ppc. now my question. after installing 10.3 although yast and alsaconfig tells me my sound card is installed and I can play samples. When i try to open xine or amorak it tells me it can't initialize any audio drivers. also when i run kmix it tells me i have no mixer ? any suggestions ? [opensuse] Which IMAP for 10.3 Server?

openSuSE Braintrust: I'm rebuilding a dying mandriva server with 10.3 and wanted to get the list's thoughts on which mail package to use. We will NOT be using UW imap again so that leaves basically Dovecot, Cyrus, or Courier to choose among. (Am I missing another good one?) Moderate inbound traffic 6,000-10,000 messages per day, minimal outbound traffic 100-200 per day. We would also like to do sieve sorting on the server. First, is there any consensus about using either Dovecot, Cyrus or Courier? (I do NOT was a vi/emacs type discussion, but I'm simply looking for any good points and gotchas that would be associated with one compared to another and if there is any consideration given my current load that would play into the decision. [opensuse] Nvidia Driver 100.14.19 and External Docked Monitor

So, I had this behavior the day before I installed openSUSE 10.3 on openSUSE 10.2. It seemed to happen when I installed the Nvidia 100.14.19 Driver, which is the only one avaliable to 10.3 through download.nvidia.com/opensuse/10.3 The issue I have is, when my computer is docked (Dell D820), it does not output onto an external monitor without me opening my laptop, and doing FN + F8... The OS should detect that the monitor is closed, and send the video to the external monitor, this is how 10.2 did it, when I first installed.. [opensuse] graphical login and sound in 10.3

I've upgraded from 10.2 and after struggling with dev setting everything seems to be working with the except for two things. 1. I no longer get a graphical login, however, once I've logged in at the commandline I can run startx successfully. I have a nvidia GeForce 6200 2. I have a soundblaster live soundcard, the snd-emu10k is not being loaded. Any thoughts please? I download the dvd 86_64 iso and I tried to install it. The dvd loads ok, I can change the resolution at boot to 1600 x 1200. Then stays for 40 seconds and go to yast text mode with the following error: "Could not find opensuse repository. Installing normal setup program". Have you seen this error. [opensuse] Early start of 10.3 torrent

I all the time get torrent files that have no seeds or peers available. The torrent program waits patiently until a seed joins and then starts to download. I wondered if opensuse could make the 10.3 torrent file available today, we could start it, and nothing would happen until their seeds join the torrent. If that works I could just start it and go to bed. Hopefully when I woke up tomorrow the torrent would be in process. In the past I have had difficulty downloading the torrent file on release day because all the servers are busy. If it’s close to 0, Linux will prefer to keep applications in RAM and not grow the caches. If it’s close to 100, Linux will prefer to swap applications out, and enlarge the caches as much as possible. OK, let’s tune swappiness. In a console as root, run: sysctl -w vm.swappiness=1 To make the change permanent, write vm.swappiness=1 on your /etc/sysctl.conf file. Also, We’ve already established that the filesystem cache is important because, without it, file browsing goes extremely slowly as well. Now we’ll learn how to tell Linux that we want it to prefer inode/dentry cache to other caches. In a root console run: sysctl -w vm.vfs_cache_pressure=50 To make the change permanent, put vm.vfs_cache_pressure=50 on your /etc/sysctl.conf file. Please experiment with this value. Values close to 100 provide no gain. Values close to zero can cause huge swap activity during big filesystem scans. [opensuse] limiting ktorrent upload

I've just started to get the dvd get ktorrent. With Azureus I could limit the uplink speed. Can I do similar with ktorrent. FYI: I'm doing this from my office and need to limit upload to 50KB/sec or I'll get complaints.
