[SLE] Disk error! How to recover data?

On boot up this morning I got: "Error 200: Fixed disk 1" The error appears to be on the root partition of my linux disk. I have two disks one XP and the other Suse. I booted from the "recover system" selection on the distribution CD of 10.1. It booted, but I was not able to mount anything from hdb, my linux disk. Does anyone have any ideas how I can recover my home folder? Mike

[SLE] Strange YOU error (Suse 9.3)

For a couple of days I'm getting two strange errors in using Yast Online Update in Suse 9.3. First of all the search string for the server list contains <br> where it should contain a question mark: http://www.suse.de/cgi-bin/suseservers.cgi<br>distproduct=SuSE-Linux-DVD-9.3-0&yast2-online-update=2.11.9-3&yast2-packagemanager=2.11.29-0.1&liby2util=2.11.7-0.3&timezone=Europe This results in an error: Could not fetch server list. When I enter this URL manually in the location bar of FF, changing <br> to ? the server list duly shows up. However, when I enter on of the servers manually and try to continue, I get another error: Could not get patch information. Attach point /var/lib/Yast2/you/mnt But this directory exists and as far as I can establish contains the sought for patch information. Has anybody encountered the same problem? And has anybody an idea what causes this behavior and how it may be remedied? [SLE] NIS on Windows and Linux

Hi I'm trying to set up a network to run NIS across a variety of machines (SuSE 10.1, Mandriva 10, Windows XP Pro) and I was wondering this was possible; a search didn't bring me a lot of results . Has anyone had any experience of setting this up, and were there any specific issues I should be aware of? [SLE] interesting "problem"

I had two konqueror instances running, one local to the machine, one running on another via ssh -X. [SLE] no patches for newly installed 10.1 instalation

Have tried to find an answer as to why I do not find patches for my fresh installed 10.1. The instalation went well and I was glad to get everything I wanted on my system. What wondered me was that YOU did not give any patches and something named "Update software did not do anything too. Looking at the numerous posts from Susers with patch and other update problems I wonder what is missing. I dont think i have some cookie problems. They are enabled, and when i checked the cookies i could find novell and oreilly cookies(site that i could access). I couldnt find cookies for sites that i couldnt connect, eg google.com. Also, i have a direct connectin to the Internet. Rahul. [SLE] Xgl SuSE 10.1 => missing windows decoration

Hi, I apologize if the following issue has been addressed before, but I could'nt find any solution with Google. I managed to install correctly Xgl+compiz (factory) on SuSE 10.1 using an ATI X600 video card on a Dell Laptop. It worked nicely albeit a problem when shutting down the X-server, so I had to manually remove the .X0-lock file in /tmp/ every time I boot. I then wanted to install the latest ATI driver 8.26.18. After doing so, the window borders disappeared in Kde and in Gnome. I decided to perform a new clean install of the system + new ATI driver + SuSE factory Xgl packages... the problem is still there. (I even downgraded to previous ATI driver 8.25.XX with the same result) I tryed to follow many different Howtos without luck. Xgl is running, all effects are there, but window borders are missing and thus I cannot move them (that is the annoying thing !!). Anyone has a clue ?
