SuSE Enterprise Server - Opinion Please

Hi, Anyone using SuSE Enterprise Server 9? I would be very glad to hear your opinion, both good and bad. BTW, I have few questions: 1) What proprietary software (from Novell or anyone else) is included in SuSE Enterprise Server 9? 2) What is the foundation of SuSE Enterprise Server 9? SuSE Linux 9.2 or 9.3? 3) Cost of the SuSE Enterprise Server 9 is for one server, or it can be installed on any number of servers, Like SuSE Linux itself? 4) Does it include Open Exchange? The future of SuSE Linux as we know it?

I'm still confused as to what product offerings will be available in the future. I've been using SuSE linux since 5.2, and have purchased the Professional distribution with every release. Looking over the website, I don't see it offered anymore. Can someone please clarify what the future of the traditional SuSE Linux distribution will be? -- "Whoever controls the histories of nations controls those nations and their peoples." Germar Rudolf

inst-source packages

Hello :-) I never could be sure of what is exactly in stable inst-source. makeSUSEdvd problems

For those who do not read opensuse-factory: makeSUSEdvd seems to have a problem when adding CD 6 or additional sources with the -a option. When you just use CD 1-5, all should be well. What I get is not an error with makeSUSEdvd, as it does what it should do. I can just not install, because after the boot and language choice, it asks to enter a specific CD. Couldn't I copy the dvd to a drive in my network, and ftp from the server to it, for an install? I'd like to, then move the image over to the new file server, so I don't have to pull out the disk.

Instead of /cdexos/ on Win ... what on SUSE10?

I use http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos/ for ripping CDs to .wav and Ogg formats. It's fast, flexible .. really nice. What should I use now that I am (trying to) fully switch my home/rec pc to SUSE 10? Peter

Problem with system log

Hi all, I am running SuSE 10.0 OSS, Kernel 2.6.13-15.8-default, KDE 3.4 on a Dell 4300 P4 512MB 40GB system, as a desktop system, not a server. (All YOU updates are installed when available) I have a problem viewing 'System Log' via Yast. Clicking on the 'View System Log' icon produces the normal window, but then the whole system grinds to a halt, with all the available memory being used up, including the Swap memory. I hate having to rudely shutdown via the power button, but end up having no choice but to do so. All other Yast modules work correctly, including 'View Start-up Log'. I can only access the 'System Log' using an editor, such as Kate. Nothing related to this shows up in the Log when viewed so I have no idea where to check for the problem. Until today, there has not been any problem viewing the log. What could cause Yast System Log Viewer to run away with all the available memory? I can find nothing on 'Google' resembling these symptoms. Regards Ian

As you get some propietary software with the boxed set, normally. I would if they did what TurboLinux did a while back, get a licensed dvd player! As it's normally only incrementally better, I tend to wait at least two versions to "upgrade". If I get a new system (another toy), then I may download and try it and see if it's really better. But I am just happy to have a normal functioning base system, because I still get "can you come fix my computer" calls, and I don't have time to mess with my own, like I'd like. By the way, I have asked for the No I won't fix your computer tshirt. And I have handed out "trial" distro's on cd and dvd.

I try to install SuSE (10.0, and earlier versions 9.3 Pro) on a xpc from shuttle.com Whatever I try to add as boot option, it ends (in text mode) with the line: PCI: Ignoring BAR0-3 of IDE controller 0000:00:02.5 What do I miss? bye Ronald Wiplinger

server certificate authenticity ?!

I am using KDE 3.5 and Kmail on my 9.3 Suse. Everyday I get following information when sending my first email of the day. The server certificate failed the authenticity test (smtp.telkom.net) After entering "continue" I get following question. Would you like to accept this certificate forever without being prompted? After entering my choice of accepting "forever" I am ready for sending my email. This happens for two of my isp's. Next day I have to go through the same practice so I wonder what "forever" means in this respect and how I can get rid of this server certificate question.
