How to do Interenet access restriction?

My son, 13 years old, likes to play on-line game. For the sake of the school, I have to limit it. If I just ask him to turn off the computer, he will certainly tell me that he needs the computer for school. I would like to trick the dns!!! I want to update the dns for his computer for certain hours to access the on-line game or not. Dynamic DNS would be something I could imagine would work. From the dns log I know which destinations he need. I want to divert these destination to a certain web site (if it access a web site). Or make a bandwidth restriction to certain hours would be another choice. My concern is, that only the games are restricted, but not any web site he might need for school. I want to make this on the server! Any ideas? bye Ronald Wiplinger

I don't know what is going on but I suspect that there is a simple time out at the server I chose in the first place. Help ! How-to assign keyboard shortcuts to change keyboard layouts?

Hello ! I have two languages Russian + English on my KDE system. How do I assign keyboard shortcuts so that ctrl+alt+1 sets me to English and ctrl+alt+2 sets me to Russian ?

Suse10 and Amd64 (Asus motherboard) problem

Dear All, Suse10 both eval and rel versions has got problem with Amd64 with Asus K8S motherboard...We need to manually load the ide-generic drivers for the installation from the DVD.Even after installing the distro we need to use the DVD always for booting into the installed system.This problem was shared once in another forum and reply was like this: *********************************** Selva had the some problem during installing suse 10 64bit on a K8S mobo ,AMD 64 . The problem was during the bootup sequence when the system tries to read from the harddisk it says " /dev/hda8 waiting for the device to appear .... "(or something like that) If thats what you are getting then here is the solution .................... So we identified that the probelm was something to do with the INITRD. The initrd that comes with the SUSE 10 rc1 system does not have the IDE-GENERIC drivers. The solution we worked out was to make our own initrd with the IDE-GENERIC drivers So boot your system with the SUSE CD. Follow till step 4 (the step u followed to load the drivers and installing) Then when you are in the main menu the will be a option to BOOT FROM HARDDISK. use that to boot it into your newly installed system Once you are inside the new system, launch a shell and follow the steps. There are two ways to solve this. -Easy way----------------1 -----------------------1 ---------------------------------- Just download (RPM) 2.6.14 kernel for suse 64 and install it.It works fine --the hard way---------------2 -----------------------2 ---------------------------------- Objective is to make our own INITRD with IDE-GENERIC drivers For this we need to use MKINTRD script. 1. Open /etc/sysconfig/kernel file Add the ide-generic to the entry as show below. INITRD_MODULES="ide-generic something-ert someting-more" 2. Now run the script mkinitrd. It will install the new ram disk. host$mkintrd 3. reboot. ************************************************************* none of them worked for me..i even recompiled the 2.6.14 kernal also...no use!!! Also there's no driver for Sis190 lan card and the graphics display ought to be improved for Asus motherboards(and i know that they don't support open source!!) Hoping for some response..or atleast bring this to the notice of suse developers.. iam also waiting for suse that suits my amd64 system9with asus k8s motherbard and with sis190 lan card on-built) Thanking in advance, Gejoe Daniel

New Laptops design woe, or is it?

Now, this is a good one and I need some guidance. Do I need to add a bugzilla ??? or somewhere else as it's not really a bug! A friend of mine was "loaned" a new generic brand AMD64bit laptop (beta model, not yet released in Australia) to play with and told to "BREAK IT!", he asked my help. :-))> Sorry, not physically, but within the software specs. We only had a couple of days though as it had to go back. Manuals were no use as were scratch copies and very basic with little english. Was promised to see a copy of a ?beta english release of the manual later in the week. so:- We killed the partitions, created a mixed size group sizes and formatted/installed with dr-dos, did that again using different partition sizes but NT3, and again a third time with Warp4, idea was to ensure everthing was totally compatable and could run the different types of operating systems, finally we reinstalled windows xp, everything came up ok in all four types. We then deleted everything and killed the partitions again. I took my suse10.0 dvd (ex linux Mag) and tried to run/install. It wouldn't, although it could read the dvd, it complained about a driver missing, after a bit of work with the onscreen log I worked out it was looking for the usb driver. It seems it couldn't find one and stopped at that point as it couldn't set partitions up on it. I wasn't happy as I had planned to "show it off". Had to stop at this point and return it to "it's pristine working state" as it had to go back to singapore the next day with the rep. Later that week, I was able to get my hands on the english translated copy of the Users Manual which had an internal block design included. It seems there is no idebus or io etc.,chipsets, everything possible, including both the hard and dvdr/w are hooked up via a module to the usb bus as are the 100/1000T port/internal modem (winmodem of course), and wi-fi modules (plus space for a third) that plug in and connect at the back. It makes sense that this would finally happen with designs, but is something new that we now need to think of and be able to support. It would be nice to be able to say that we had already added that function into the basic configurations. So who do I tell / ask? regards scsijon

I'm trying to laugh about this because the alternative will be to kick my computer off the roof. I need to run XP occasionally so I have a dual-boot config. This morning I tried to boot Win XP and was told 'windows needs to be activated' - and it wouldn't log me in. I did that last year and I haven't changed anything, but what the hell - I have a legal copy, so I clicked yes. Then it said 'this copy of windows is already activated' and logged me off... rebooted - and the same thing. It won't let me log in and it won't activate. I have to reinstall from scratch AGAIN! configuring kmail for gmail (particularly outgoing)

I managed to get kmail to download my gmail emails just fine, but it cannot send. Can someone please give me the proper config info. ? Could this be because of my ISP (earthlink) blocking me? How would I know? Any other ideas? Thanks -- Cheers, wmeler
