Coolsolution problem

Hi. I am running the SuSE 10.0, and would update the KDE. Then I found the article: http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/16592.html I looked like its really was the one for me to be updated, and I did as was written in the article. KDE was updated, and after I went through all the packages that could be updated. It was a success. BUT now I have done this twice, and there has been some days between the first and successfull updates, and to the second one. In both cases all my X's has been useless. I have a thread running "Problems After Update", where people has been kind to help me. I would like to know now if other has experiences with this socalled coolsolution, and what experinces they have, as I really want to know if its of use or not. I was glad when I found the article, as I have problems in updating for instance KDE, and this I found looke ok to me, and was easy to follow. But the smiley has went from a :-) to a :'( . Dual Boot Under Grub

OS: SuSE 10.0 Other OS: Win95 Disk: One EIDE Partitions: hda1 Win95 hda2 Linux Swap hda3 SuSE 10 This was originally a Win95 system but I shrank the FAT32 to 500+Mb and installed SuSE. Everything worked fine but I wanted to be sure no one booted Win95 so I used the YaST Boot Loader module to delete the Win95 section. Now I want to put it back and have managed to get to the point it says "Grub Loading Stage 2". Then several messages flash by and it goes back to the menu. Questions: 1. Does grub log these messages anywhere? Where? 2. Alternatively, can it be forced to halt instead of continuing? BTW, the Windows section of menu.lst is: unhide (hd0,0) rootnoverify (hd0,0) chainloader +1 makeactive boot from the "info grub" section on DOS/Windows. Thank you, Lucky Leavell

Kodak EasyShare CX6330 and DigiKam

I'm using the EasyShare CX6330 in DigiKam, and it has no problem finding the camera. The problem is when I actually select the camera and try to pull in the pictures.

X resets after upgrade

Hi: About two weeks ago, I did a security update through YOU. Unfortunately, I don't remember what was updated, but ever since, X resets itself every once in a while, at random intervals. I can be reading emails, surfing the web, or working with Kdevelop. I will reset and I will lose my unsaved data. I upgraded KDE to 3.5 last week, thinking it might be a problem with KDE 3.4, but the problem is still there. If I use Gnome, I can work all day long, and no problem, so I must asume it's a KDE problem. Can anybody provide a suggestion so I can start looking for a solution? grub can't load windows - error 12: Invalid Device Requested (hd0,9)

Good morning, friends! I have windows 98se at /dev/hda9 (it is called unit F: by Windows). As we know windows 98 put its initialization files on C: (IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS, etc.), but I formated C: to NTFS in order to install Windows XP. Grub is restored and SuSE, Slackware and Windows XP can boot, but Windows 98 couldn't. I don't want to use C: in FAT, could I use GRUB to boot Windows 98 from /dev/hda9 (F:), directly? My Grub file contains these lines for Win98 partition: title Windows 98SE rootnoverify (hd0,8) makeactive chainloader +1 The following error occurs: Error 12: Invalid Device Requested (hd0,8) Is there any chance to maintain Windows 98 bootable on /dev/hda9 (F:)? Do I need the erased files from unit C:? Thanks for any help. adagilson

Powersaved and Kpowersave

Kpowersave its no refrshing the power status. i have to reboot the powersaved daemon and kpowersave show that the battery has changed, so i think is a powersaved problem not reading the acpi status propelly. Any ideas how to resolv this? Thx -- Patricio Bruna V.

kdeinit error

When I open /dev/video0 with mplayer, it opens find, but when I try to open it with Kaffeine, I get kdeinit could not launch '/dev/video0'. What does this mean and how to correct it? Art

WinTV PVR-350 Success with Mythtv & Mplayer (at last)

For those of you who have asked about the PVR-350 (I have seen a number of emails on the list) I have finally gotten it to work. Here are some pointers. Forget about using Yast, hardware, tv card except to recognize the card and install it. Tuner and scan tv channels does not work. The PVR-350 actually outputs an mpeg file from /dev/video0. First of all, with the Suse 10.0 default install of ivtv, etc, I never got it to work. I uninstalled the ivtv via Yast and done a rmmod ivtv, then downloaded the ivtv-0.4.2.tar.gz from ivtvdriver.org. Extracted it, done a make, make install, then depmod -ae. I downloaded the latest firmware also from the site and done a ./ivtvfwextract (located in the ivtv-0.4.2 directory.) on the exe file with the firmware in it. It puts them in /lib/modules. I moved them to the /lib/firmware directory (this is in the path for the hotplug per /sbin/udev.firmware.sh) I also had to copy a v4l-cl2341x-init.mpeg file from the ivtv-0.4.2 directory to the /lib/firmware directory. So you need 3 files in the /lib/firmware directory: v4l-cl2341x-init.mpeg v4l-cx2341x-dec.fw v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw I installed the perl modules and compiled per the http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Ptune-ui web site and copied the ptune-ui.pl to my home directory. I can execute it and then change the channels to test it etc instead of the ivtv-tune. Much easier. Ran modprobe ivtv, then dmesg | grep ivtv to check if it installed OK. Executed the ./ptune-ui.pl, set for NTSC cable, and the channel. You can then go to Konqueror, browse to /dev/video0, right-click, and open with Mplayer under multimedia, video players. It should work. I installed Mythtv from the http://folk.uio.no/oeysteio/apt/suse/10.0-olsen/RPMS.Olsen/ site. It has suse rpms for everything. You can set this site up with the yast installation sources and install the rpms with yast. After installing the rpms, follow the http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Documentation General Purpose Howto then the Suse howto also listed. Setup the mysql database per the mythtv site, and then done the mythtv-setup. Important item here that caused me headache was that you have to select the PVR-250/350 mpeg card. I was selecting v4l tuner0. User interface on the program is terrible, you have to use the up/down arrow keys to select the field and the right/left arrows to select within the field. Still have some to go to get it finished, but at least I have video. Hopefully I did not make any mistakes as it took several weeks of trial and error to get it working, but the above is basically what I ended up doing to get it working. Although it is brief, hope this helps someone. If anyone has any questions, they can post them on the list and I will try to answer them. Art
