Hello Look and Feel guru's out there. When you install SUSE, do you go off and change the Look and Feel to match your own preference? Do people look at your resulting desktop and say: WOW, that looks cool. If so, let me know, since we would like to ship several alternative "Look and Feel" options in SLICK. They can be very experimental or just little tweaks to make fonts look different or have a different colour scheme/background. Let me know and please send me screenshots of your resulting Desktop. LIVECD scripts

Hello team I am currently putting together a LIVECD based on the official SUSE 9.2 LIVECD. I wonder if any official SUSE person on here can give us access to the scripts used to create the liveCD? If not I guess I have to create me own ;) Looks pretty straight forward .... managed to do a new cloop.img ..... will keep you guys posted. Opera 8.5

Opera 8.5 - free and without ads - is now available. I have not installed the previous Linux version (7.54) using YaST, but I would like to try 8.5, so I downloaded the package for SuSE: opera-8.50-20050916.5-shared-qt.i386-en.rpm Where and how should I install it? When I try, I get an error message saying that there is no application associated with the file type (i.e. rpm). When you want to add a new instalation source, you need to enter three things. 1. The type of source, e.g. CD, HD, FTP, HTTP 2. The server 3. The directory Is there any reason that you can not do this on one line? e.g. ftp://ftp.example.com/dir/opensuse cd://media/dev/ http://mirror.example.net/dir/subdir/subsubdir/opensuse ... detecting HD's location for grub

I added the following to my menu.lst: title Install SUSE 10.1 Alpha 1 root (hd3,2) kernel /opensuse/DVD_10.1_A1/boot/loader/linux initrd /opensuse/DVD_10.1_A1/boot/loader/initrd What I want to know what program I must use to know what the correct root is. With me linux (for 10.1A1) is : /media/data/opensuse/DVD_10.1_A1/boot/loader/linux Also: /dev/hdf3 is /media/data Because hdf is the third HD, it is 3 and because hdf3 is the second partition, that is 2, so it makes hd3,2. What command must I use to know this? Blackened GTK menus?!

http://www.whack.org/~ben/blackened.jpg Have any of you experienced this with GTK applications? It happens with all but Firefox. I have absolutely no clue how to fix this. None of my KDE applications do this. I've gone so far as to backup my needed files and remove my whole home directory to see if something was corrupt. I've made sure everything is good in Sax2 as well. It's only happened since the update before last of the Gnome progs and libs. It's REALLY annoying. Device Permissons

Hello List, I´m trying to change the Permission of the Device dev/hdb2 to read/write for the Group Disk, but assoon i restart the system the defaul value is set again. I have tryed to put a rule into /etc/permission or /etc/permission.local but nothing will work. Could anybody tell me where it is written down that the devices have to have readonly for the Group Greats Michael

Installing 10 (OSS RC1) Under 9.3 Possible?

Hi, I have a well-functioning 9.3 installation and will be setting up a 10.0 installation using the Novell commercial distribution when it arrives. I'm attempting a preview installation using the 10.0 RC1 OSS release based on the 5-CD set of ISOs I just retrieved via the torrent published on the openSUSE.org Web site. What I'd like to do is run all (or as much as possible) of the installation software under my existing 9.3 setup. I want to do this for two reasons: 1) Keep the system available for ordinary operations during the (preview) installation. 2) Make it easy to access information about the existing configuration without having to write it all down or hunt for it in configuration files during the execution of the installer. Is this possible? Are there other ways to accomplish my goals (especially (2))? I have VMware and it occurred to me to set up a VM for the purpose of installing the new release, but that approach seems flawed because of the significant discrepancies between the emulated environment and the physical one on which I'll ultimately want the new installation to run. Thanks in advance for any tips, hints, pointers or instructions. Randall Schulz
