Kernel 2.4.31 over SuSE 9.3?

Hello, Is it possible to use kernel 2.4.31 over SuSE 9.3? could it be any problem on doing this? The reason I would like to do this is because a barcode scanner I have does not work over kernel 2.6. Thanks in advance. ---sram http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Salvador+Ramirez%22

Hello. My PC have a two ethernet interfaces. Both are connected to one network (/24) by two ports of Catalyst. The eth0 have IP-address 1.1.1.1 and eth1 - 1.1.1.2 I need to see ALL packets from and to 1.1.1.1 address in eth0, also ALL packets from|to 1.1.1.2 in eth1. Now, many packets from|to 1.1.1.2 I can see by "tcpdump -i eth0" (not in eth1). Do you know special setting in network configuration of SuSE_9.3 to separate a traffic by interfaces? Thank you. Oss.

This is silly but ... where's the sound volume icon gone from bottom bar?

OK, I know I know, but I'm not very knowledgeable... the sound volume icon has disappeared from the bottom right hand side of the bar, so I and the kids can't adjust sound levels easily. How do I put it back? Sorry...

installing suse 9.3 on an athlon64 fx 3200+

Reading the Admin. book I see where it says don't use both 32 bit pkgs. and the ones intended for 64bit procs noted by not haveing foo32 in title. However, When I try to mark those choices , where there are choices, as do not install it marks them anyway. How do I know what I need , precisely to get the box up and running? ( Or do I mark the 32 bit files as "taboo" ? ) Most confusing ... I await answers from the list wizards .. BTW, whomever it was that wrote the cute little script that told me I was about to install a 32 bit OS on a 64 bit system .. kudos, it made me laugh ! It said , when I plopped a cd into the dvd drive, "cool computer, you are going to install a 32bit system on it ? " Right now,I am sooooo confused ... And this is one place that the book has only confused me more. Obviously my reading skills have suffered. <sigh> -- j registered linux user #363029 Mornings: Evolution in action. I was wondering why it is often said that NTFS support on Linux is incomplete when there exists this package: http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/ Will the experts please take a look at it and tell us whether it can be integrated into SUSE 10 (or maybe 10.1 if the 10.0 tree is already frozen)? Help with external Tape unit

Hello everybody. I've installed SuSE 9.2 Pro (x86) (2.6.8-24.16-bigsmp) to an HP-Proliant DL360 with an array controller: lspci -v says: 0000:0b:04.0 RAID bus controller: Compaq Computer Corporation Smart Array 64xx (rev 01) Subsystem: Compaq Computer Corporation Smart Array 6400 hwscan detects this: cB5L.gwvXxx1Amj4: (cfg=yes, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown) storage Compaq Smart Array 6400 Connected to it is an external tape unit: HP StorageWorks Ultrium 460 While booting the server the card and the tape unit gets recognized: Slot 2 HP Smart Array 6400 Controller (192 MB, v2.34) 1 Logical Drives Tape or CDROM Drive(s) Detected SCSI Port 2: SCSI ID 3 But when loading the kernel, there does not appear messages seeing the tape unit, the st module gets loaded but without any dependent device. If i issue: mt -f /dev/sr0 status an error occurs. What can i do? , rh7-9 detect this device witouth adding anything. Is there something i forgot to do in order to make SuSE recognize the tape? Eth0 locked / duplicate IP address

Hi, Installation of SuSE 10 RC 1 went very smoothly. I have a problem with configuring a static IP at work. Yast error messages that a duplicate address exists on the network (it doesn't and the network interface isn't up anyway ). If I try ifup -eth0 then it errors out with device is already in use. Ifconfig -a reveals that eth0 is not up. How do I find the process that is locking the network card?? (PS.
