Samba Problems

Hi there on the list I'm having problems getting my Samba working. I have Suse 9.1 pro. When I click on the Windows Network icon under Network Browsing I get the message "Unable to find any workgroups in your local network." I have tried the German Diagnose page at http://samba.sernet.de/diagnosis.html and testpam and ping work ok but when I try smbclient -L papa I get the message "Connection to papa failed" Looking for the problem it is stated that the "inetd.conf" could be faulty I am unable to locate this file (either by hand or with the search function) I have also tried to use GUI's with both Webmin and SWAT I get the message "the connection was refused" What I find interesting is when I check the KDE System Gaurd I find two instances of smbd one at PID 6294 and one at PID 6317 papa@linux:~> cd /etc/samba papa@linux:/etc/samba> testparm smb.conf Load smb config files from smb.conf Processing section "[homes]" Processing section "[profiles]" Processing section "[users]" Processing section "[groups]" Processing section "[printers]" Processing section "[print$]" Processing section "[tmp]" Loaded services file OK. hcfpci driver on 9.2

Hi, I have modem 'Rockwell International HCF 56k PCI Speakerphone Modem'. I used the hcfpci driver version 0.99lnxtbeta03042700 with SuSE 9.0 on 2.4 kernel. I want to use my modem in SuSE 9.2 too, but I can't compile the kernel modules. I have installed kernel header files with complete kernel sources. The error part of the hcfpciconfig script's output follows. Please, is it possible to use this driver with 2.6 kernels? If not, which other driver could I use? Move from single drive to software RAID

Over the weekend I worked on moving my current SuSE 9.1 installation from a single IDE drive to 2 RAID'd SCSI drives using software RAID. I hooked up my SCSI drives with the IDE drive still attached, created the following in YaST: /dev/sda1 47M Linux Native /dev/sda2 517.6M Linux RAID /dev/sda3 33.6GB Linux RAID /dev/sdb1 47M Linux Native /dev/sdb2 517.6M Linux RAID /dev/sdb3 33.6GB Linux RAID /dev/md0 1GB MD RAID (From sda2 and sdb2) /dev/md1 67.3GB MD RAID (From sda3 and sdb3) md0 is formated swap, md1 is formated reiser. sda1 and sdb1 were intended to be /boot, but not RAID'd. sd[a,b]1 were formated ext2. I copied over all of / to md1, and all of /boot to sd[a,b]1, changed the fstab on the md1 drive, changed Grubs menu.lst and installed Grub on hd1 (as the IDE drive was still there, I assume hd1 was the first SCSI drive). Just as a temporary step, I rebooted and had Grub come up from the IDE drive. I edited the boot string for the SCSI drive, and told it to boot. It started to boot, but stopped at (from memory, sorry) Waiting for device /dev/md1 to appear: So I'm thinking my SCSI card kernel module or the RAID module (or both) aren't loaded by this point. To further add to that, I've found that after a reboot trying to mount md1 from the command line doesn't always work the first time. Anyone know what's going on? Thanks, Chris

login script execution order

Dear list members: I would like to know what scripts in what order are run when someone logs in Suse locally through KDM/KDE and remotely (eg via ssh). Especially interest are the ~/.bashrc, ~/.profile, /etc/bash.bashrc and / etc/profile scripts. I could not find information either in the suse documentation project or in the adminguide. If you know please explain it or point me at a site that has some information. Thank you, IG

Dosbox and or dosemu, where to start

I have a full working DOS partition besides Suse 9.0 and 9.1. Since 7.1 I always wanted to run some DOS programs under Linux but I never was able to understand the man and README pages and everything else I found as instruction. Could somebody give me in plain English how to begin. My DOS partition can be mounted under /drdos.

Installing SuSE 9.2 onto Adaptec HostRaid

Hi guys, I'm trying to install 9.2 onto a hardware raid setup. The RAID controller is an Adaptec 39320A and I've got two 74GB SCSI disks in a RAID 1 setup. The problem is - SuSE doesn't even see the hard drives! I checked the modules loaded by the Kernel and it had what seemed to be the appropriate modules loaded. Whether they are properly configured or not is another questions. I've googled for an answer on this and haven't really found one - any gurus out there know how to do this? Regards, Angus Beath
