GRIP in 8.2 Pro

In attempting to rip a CD to mp3 i find I need to configure the encoders. In looking in Suse help on my box I find large sections of help files are missing when I try to build the database. It appears that not having a DVD even though I selected install everything leaves a large gap in the help for things like GRIP. Attempting to use the helps built into GRIP also do nothing. Third and possibily related fatal nautilus crashes followed by a seemingly limitless supply of warning windows. which close best with killall nautilus. bootup passwords in grub

Hi all, Is there a way I can put a password for bootup, the way I put a password in lilo.conf? I want the extra security it provides. Default bootloader being grub. Konqueror SuSE Pro 8.1 vs 7.3

Konq has been working fine on 7.3 for years. I have installed 8.1 on the same box and konq on the 8.1 takes 3 to 4 times as long to load pages. Very Very slow in loading. I have reviewed the list emails but can't find any covering this situation even though I seem to remember reading some. Both installs are SuSE default installs from boxed sets and have current updates using YOU. Can anyone point me in another direction.

3D & direct rendering [SOLVED]

ATI graphics users, I seem to have lost "direct rendering" capabilities from my Radeon 7200 card. Checked all the usual things, modules are there, using Mantel's 2.4.21-4 athlon kernel, no recent changes to graphics setup or files. I have ran sax2 to make sure that went well and it did. Everything is activated that should be running. The /etc/sysconfig/3Ddiag has switch2xf86_glx running. Running glxinfo shows no direct rendering and gears are slow and Tux Racer is slow. The 7200 is about the same as the 7000 card, so it doesn't fit into the "need an ATI binary driver" to get the 3d working. In fact, I believe the standard XFree86 4.3 supports 3d for the Radeons up to the 9200, but beyond that you need the binary drivers. Any thoughts anyone? Has someone run across this lately as well? Pat ================== Ok, sports fans, for those following this thread, I have found the problem and now have 3D and direct rendering working again! Seems the problem was Mantel's kernel build (2.4.21-4). It apparently does not have the ATI modules needed to do 3D or work with the present XFree86 4.3. Going back to SuSE's last 2.4.20-86 kernel release fixed the bug and brought back the 3D. Thanks for everyone that put a thought into the problem and hope this helps others. spamassassin and procmail use

I have been using an older version of spamassassin by piping mail to spamassassin in my .procmailrc, then checking the X-Spam-Flag header. I just installed the SuSE RPM and, as usual, I can't figure out what the SuSE automagic does and what I have to do. In particular the documentation suggests using spamd, the daemon, rather than spamassassin. But how do I do this? And what is spamc? Thanks, Henry Harpending

Konqueror, flash and nspluginviewer

Konqueror frequently chokes on flash files. Not all, but it seems that all flash files with sound will hang. nspluginviewer will use 99% of CPU and I have to kill it. Konqueror DOES have the checked the option to send sound through artsd. HP LaserJet 1000

Hi, I'm the owner of HP LaserJet 1000, and it's un-usable in SuSE. I already check the SuSE list, and somehow LaserJet 1000 is one of the model that were not supported. (why???) Is there any work around that can be use? Help me!!
