Hey Group; I am trying to convert some people to Linux. As a person that has not used Windows in over eight years I am not certain of the current limitations of Windows when compared to Linux. I know of its basic headaches like crash, poor memory usage, lack of reasonable security, virus problems and license cost. I hear most often concerns about linux - "lack of help". I normally reply with "When was the last time you emailed Bill Gates and got a answer? I have emailed an heard from just about any Linux software maintainer I have ever emailed in less than a day". However, I am in need of some of you that use or used Windows and know of its less obvious problems to add to my "Linux Benefits" list. If possible seperate into versions - 9x, ME, XP, NT/2K and their Sever systems. (Not to mention Microsoft "Services for UNIX 3.0"). spammers attached to the SuSE list

For several months now, I have posted to this group from time to time, and I have noticed that as soon as I post, there is an attempt to spam me immediately upon my post. This happens on *every* post, within a fraction of a second of posting, so it is not coincidental. This comes not from the list group per se, but from some spammers who have attached themselves or subscribed to the list, and run small scripts directing their spam upon a post, or at least mine. These are taken from my SMTP logs. Initially, it came from one source, mail-in3.tiscali.be:62.235.13.190, and this has been going on for months. and now he has a brother mail-in1.tiscali.be:62.235.13.191 Notice two separate attempts from 2 different IPs. Now, we also have new.. forward.012.net.il:80.179.100.86 Let us not forget the latest and newest spam addition from tw... dsl.pl.apol.com.tw:218.187.133.220 All have and will continue to be blocked at the SMTP level, but I mention this to the list so that you can do the same., I have noticed this on other lists, but now with 4 spammers attached on this list, as of this morning, I thought I would make mention of it. 62.235.13.0/24 80.179.100.86 218.187.133.220 -- Gary

xspread

Anyone know where I can find the source or home page for xspread? I am running 8.2Pro and I got the RPM from 7.3 from the SuSE FTP site and it works, but it must be very old. I have googled, and though I can find many references to xspread, none of them take me to a homepage for it. I have some old files that I'd like to be able to access with it and know if it's even still being maintained. If not, I guess I'll have to try to print to PS the tables I have and live with that... netgear ma101 usb adapter

I'm trying to get this wireless usb adapter installed an working in suse 8.2. I plugged it into usb port on back of computer it the computer seemed to lock up. so i rebooted with it plugged into usb port an it locked up during booting process. had to reboot with it not plugged in to get going agin. I have an tyan mother board with dual cpu ( S2466N-4M ). Can anyone give me info on getting this working or had this problem know the solution. thanks jack

Yep...Netgear has a wireless adapter that worked fine o my home workstation. Thinkpad power management

I have a A21m thinkpad with SuSE 8.2. I guess the kernel doesn't come with apm support, so I'm stuck with ACPI only. The only problem is that the "sleep" keys on the keyboard don't work with ACPI. I could start the apmd despite the support (or lack thereof) and shutdown the keys providing there was nothing in the PCMCIA buss. I have had, at various times in the past, this notebook working with PCMCIA and some kind of power management (Dont' Recall) where it would actually put the PCMCIA card to suspend/eject when it went to sleep. Any suggestions?
