Looking for File Manager - Super User Mode in 8.2

I recently installed 8.2, and I can't seem to find File Manager - Super User Mode which in the KDE menu of 8.1 was under System / Configuration. Is it still around, and if so, where? Turning a partition AFTER SuSE into a DOS partition?

When I embarked on my project to install 8.2 entirely from FTP, I set up my partitions as follows, adjusted from their prior arrangement: HDA1 -- a 2-gig Windows partition for my brother. HDA5 -- my 256-meg swap partition. HDA6 -- a 3-gig SuSE 8.1 partition, from which I was WGetting 8.2. HDA7 -- the 7-gig partition I was downloading into. Now that the system's all installed and I've switched my installation source over to FTP, I've gone ahead and gotten rid of the contents of HDA7 so I can store downloads in it. However, it occured to me that it'd be handy to make it a DOS partition so my brother can use it too. Unfortunately, if I partition it as a DOS partition, Windows can see HDA6 too and tries to Scandisk it, which I imagine would be a bad thing if I let it. So, I guess my question is: is it possible for me to make this partition a DOS partition without Windows doing bad things to SuSE? If not, is it possible to set it up in some other way so that both OSes can access it as storage space?

Weather programs

Does anyone know if there is a weather program that uses the WMO Index Number as opposed to the ICAO Location Indicator used by the KDE and Gmome appletts? Hi. Now I'm so far, that I can mount/unmout the DVD drive and the writer drive from being root. But as far, as I enter KDE, I cannot mount the device from their Icons on the KDE desktop. I know it has something to do with permissions, but what the reason is, I must say, that I don't know. But any help are most welcome. TIA. -- Med venlig hilsen - Best regards. Configure RTL8139 NIC during boot

I have discovered the I can improve LAN performance from ~ 30 kB/s to ~3 Mb/s on file transfers by using the "ethtool" package. As root bash the command ethtool -s eth0 autoneg on turns on the autonegotiation of the RTL 8139 NIC chip. I could not find a command to do this via modprobe parameters but since ethtool works nicely all that I need to do now is have the ethtool command execute during the boot sequence. Where should the ethtool command string be placed for execution during boot ? - John

senmail+spamassassin

Hi all, I've done some searching on this, but I don't find anything that I can get working. I have fetchmail --> sendmail --> evolution. I want to stick spamassassin inbetween fetcmail and sendmail (or where ever it should go. Most of what I've found works with spamassassin and postfix, and the one document that looked thorough enough was in Russian. I've run spamd and spamc in every possible order/combination, but, going by my e-mail headers, it doesn't seem to do anything. I've also seen many references to procmail, and changes to be made to .procmailrc. But there's no such file in my ~ dir and I don't know what else should be in it or how to activate procmail So how do I do this? Thanks?

Metrication inches forward {a dummy asks}

I've just about got used to the (semifictional) measurement of monitors by diagonals in inches, and the capacity of printers and scanners in "dpi" -- but really, for OOo to make "letter size" the default page size and to have me adjust its margins in inches is a bit much for me to stomach. Mozilla's in inches, too. Bleurghh. Konqueror is set up for A4 and centimetres, but it refuses to send anything to the printer. Could there be a message in that? Is SuSEgnuLinux more ruggedly American than 'Doze, so I must learn to love these quaint, pre-Napoleonic units? vacation nuisance

Hi , "vacation" is driving up the pole. It just dies out without sending the response, even though it gets invoked by .forward. Using SuSE 8.2 with sendmail, latest patches etc Since it's Summertime, someone _must_ have had the problem. I had it on two different machines now :-( Someone ? Stock postgres

Is anyone using the stock postgres on 8.2? If so is it bloody slow for you? We upgraded servers recently and went from a dual athlon mp 1.4ghz with 5 disk raid 5 to a dual xeon 2.4 with a 4disk raid 5. I have an insert that took about 2 minutes on the old server. It takes over 20 minutes now. Do I need to recompile postgres or something to get it up to speed? ROb
