Mail Server

This is a little bit out of topic, but I just wanted to know what would you suggest to build, on top of SuSE 8.2, a mail server with a couple of hundred users, up to 5 domains, and a webmail service... I was thinking of openldap for the users database (get them out of /etc/passwd!), postfix for the MTA (sendmail sucks for virtual domains), and I am clueless for the Pop3 server since qpopper seems to be outdated... And for the webmail I would use IMP. Do postfix & virtual domains & openldap mix well? Ideas? Raul

Need help with sodipodi not compiling

Hello list, I have been trying to compile the new version of sodipodi with no success. I do not know much about programming so I thought that I can ask here since there are people who know more than me :) Here is the errors that I get when trying to compile the program. It seems by the error messages that the development files that SuSE shipped with is at fault. But I'm thinking that it might be something in the source files that is causing it to do this. Hi, I'm no expert on this field, but I read about it in a FAQ once, though I have no idea where and when. It basically boils down to way in which Linux does memory management. If a process (like Matlab) is killed, it keeps the memory it used cached, until it is needed by something else. If you restart Matlab before starting something else, you'll find it a lot faster because of this. The consequence is that your memory will always appear to be fully used, even though it isn't. Since I don't know operating system theory, I can't say if this is good or bad, but is definitely the way it was meant to be. My experience has also lead me to believe Linux memory management superior to what I have seen in other OS'. Compaq and SuSE 8.2

Hey Group; This is the first machine that I have tried to install SuSE on that failed on the CD boot. It failed on something just after the detection of the HD. An error message suggested turn of ACPI and I aslo added APIC. But the same failure. It locks up the machine and mention (as I remember) VFS. It is on a 4 to 5 year old Compaq Persario (SP) Pentium ? with VIIx4 chipset Another reason not to buy a HP/Compaq.. Note: he has a old SuSE 7.0 installed and it boots. There is a story about upgrading SuSE 7.0 today. Speaking of memories 7.0 versus 8.2. Any clues on how to solve this problem? I am trying to find a freeware e-mail spam filtering tool for a SuSE 7.2 server at work. I've had a look but none of the ones I've seen seem to be able to cope with my particular situation. My setup consists of a SuSE 7.2 box running sendmail which relays mail to and from another box running Lotus Domino (under W2K). i.e. all mail sent from the Domino server goes via sendmail on the SuSE box to the outside world. Incoming mail comes in from the ISP via POP3 from many mailboxes using fetchmail. This mail is forwarded to the Domino server via sendmail. No mail is delivered locally on the SuSE box, sendmail ONLY acts as a relay. Spamassassin and nearly all the other anti-spam solutions and how-tos I've seen all seem to require local mail delivery at the end of the process. I haven't seen any solutions which can cope with my situation. I am currently using mailfilter which does catch some of the spam but it is a very basic solution and I'm looking for something a bit more intelligent. Can anyone point me in the right direction ? "Relay" video streaming

Hi! I have this issue: I have to get the video streaming from a customer who has a GeoVision GV250 capture system and to put it on my webserver into a webpage. Do you know if there's any package who know how to do this on SuSE Linux 8.2? Or any other solution? Regards, Radu

I don't have all the answers and with NTFS you will need to use an extra (simple) step I have not yet tried - so you definitely need the list to see my response. Dropping a copy of lilo boot sector *is* described in old manuals - but sadly not the latest one (as far as I can see.) Look for the chapter on Booting and Boot Manager in, for example, SuSE Linux 7.3 Reference Manual - there is an example called Windows NT and Linux on One Hard Disk - I have a sticky note on that page :-) (you probably know that XP is also known as NT version 5.1) I think that suselinux-reference_en.rpm on an old CD or ftp site contains this manual. Here is the problem - those instructions are written for FAT16 and FAT32 filesystems which are writeable by Linux. But NTFS is not writeable by Linux (without experimental drivers.) Simplest way seems to be to make bootsek.lin as SuSE describe. Copy it with mcopy to a DOS formatted floppy. Boot into Windows and then copy bootsek.lin from the A drive to the C drive. You need to repeat all the steps any time you upgrade the kernel. I did it many times (except the floppy part) without trouble. When I forgot I just booted from a rescue disk and then did it. But it costs much less money than Acronis OS Selector, and is less worry than putting lilo or grub on your XP Master Boot Record. David
