spamassassin and procmail use
I have been using an older version of spamassassin by piping mail to spamassassin in my .procmailrc, then checking the X-Spam-Flag header. I just installed the SuSE RPM and, as usual, I can't figure out what the SuSE automagic does and what I have to do. In particular the documentation suggests using spamd, the daemon, rather than spamassassin. But how do I do this? And what is spamc? Thanks, Henry Harpending

spamc is the client for spamd. It is actually very easy to use. Just start up your spamd (set it to be started by teh runlevels) Then put this in your .procmailrc: --<snip>-- :0fw | spamc :0: * ^X-Spam-Status: Yes .spam_mail/caughtspam --<snip>-- This is what my .procmail file looks like. I did not have to change any of the default settings of spamd, it just works. I just teach spamasassin from time to time with any spam that it missed, by using the sa-learn. See the man page for it to see how to use it. The only thing to watch out for is that the syntax of SA has changed in newer versions. The "-P" option is no longer needed. Thus, if your rule reads like this: # run through spamassassin :0fw | /usr/bin/spamassassin -P Change it to: # run through spamassassin :0fw | /usr/bin/spamassasin --Jerry -- Open-Source software isn't a matter of life or death... ...It's much more important than that!
